Dean Cadillac - Anyone like them?

Re: Dean Cadillac - Anyone like them?

I'm a member of a strange & peculiar sect that believes that the Les Paul was divinely inspired, and that mere mortals should not modify or otherwise aldulterate the design (tinker with the electronics yes; body design no). Blasphemy!

That actually looks like a early 90's Tropical era Dean Caddy. 24 frets and that headstock logo tell me that.

That's what I was thinking,as well,although I'm not up on the history.
A friend of a friend had one exactly like that one(except it was Trans Red w/Gold hardware),it was OK at best,IMO.I didn't really care for it,but I'm digging my '80 R/I.I'd love to have one of the Tiger's Eye Selects, too!!!

What are those pups Gene? The ones in mine are actually some of the best stock Dean pups I've ever heard. BLOYD told me he thought they were made by Schaller. Mine are really hot pups. They sound good.

I've never seen one in the stores here. They look like cool guitars, and I wish the stores here stocked more Deans of all sorts.

I played a Korean made on- the Select series. Very good at getting a Les Paul tone, and the explorer top gives you better fret access than a Les Paul

The Czech ones, from what I recall over the last few years, are discontinued.

Basically Armadillio Music, the now owners of Dean, started Dean back up a little while ago by building most of the Deans in Korea, and only a handfull in America until they rehired Dean Zelinski later on. In that time, they had high quality handmade guitars (higher than the Korean models), being made in the Czech republic for a few years.

Once Dean Zelinski came back on board, Dean reorganized. They opened up a factory in China, in addition to the Korean factory. Dean then started the U.S. shop up again, which took the place of the Czech made Deans (although the USA ones are much more expensive).

Best bet would be ebay, though they have gone up in value over the last few years. I remember Ed Roman's price for a Czech Korina V starting at $1299, then went as low as $599 when he couldn't sell them, then when supply ran out and demand for Korina went up his price went have up to $1500.

The Czech Caddys are incredible. All the Czeck Deans are awesome. They are labled "Made In Czech Republic" on the back of the headstock. Sellers are usually quick to point it out because the Czech Deans are very nice and are becoming harder to get. I will dig up some Czech porn if you want. I have a bunch of them.
