Digital Modelers

Do you find that you have needed to purchase things (profiles) in order to get what you want out of the modeler?

There are a lot of great profiles onboard, I could certainly have worked with them. There are a little over 17,000 free profiles on the Rig Exchange, just a matter of sifting through the bad to find the good. I have purchased a bunch, but certainly didn't need to. I have found that I like the way Tone Junkie does his profiles and he is constantly running sales. I bought a bunch of profiles simply because it was $5 for a pack of 25-50 different profiles of one amp.

Oh, that’s cheap enough to buy if needed then. I really wasn’t sure what the costs for a profile was.
I know....what’s his name....Brit something, the guitar player from alone Star. He is highly regarded as a profile maker and I heard a bunch of his on YouTube today. They sounded killer.

Michael Britt, he has a ton of great profiles. I really like a couple of his /13 profiles that come on a stock Profiler. His hotter rock (not metal) tones are really good.

You will find certain companies / people cater to certain sounds. There are a lot of free things available as was said and there is plenty to work with on the unit itself without ever "having" to purchase anything.

Always a tube dude...then picked up a Katana and it really impressed me but...picked up a Fractal and got hooked but...then went to Kemper and found it to be what I was really looking for. Like the previous it took time to find my tone but much quicker because Fender tube amps is my thing could zero in on the target and spend a little time tweaking...the Kemper works for me...still go back to the tubes periodically because there really is no substitute but Kemper, for now, seems to me as close as you can get and it is close enough...

This is pretty much what has happened to me. I’m not as far down the road as you....yet!!

I like that with the Kemper I can find a great tone and just make small tweaks to the eq and FX and I’m done.
The AxeFX is nice in that you can really, and I mean really dig into a tone. But that’s a blessing and a curse. I like to be able to dial up a tone quickly if needed but I also like to spend time discovering , when I have the available time that is. Which isn’t often lately.

I can get by with a small number of usable tones for most gigs. What I typically like to do is mess with the FX to get what I need from a tone, at least in my cover band situation.
I don’t typically chase the guitar tone per se, but I like to try to get the Fx close.

Plus a buddy of mine has 2 amazing Wizard amps and I want to profile them. Lol

Just thought of more questions. Lol

On my AA12, there are lots of deeper editing functions. Things from the cab “air” and low end as well as its “Q” which brightens or darkens the amp.

There is also parametric EQ where you can choose the type of eq. Such as hi/LP cut and hi/lo shelf.

On one hand I’m glad that they are there for tweaking. On the other hand they create endless parameters and menus to scroll.

Does the Kemper get this deep as well or is it more of a thing where you choose your profile and it allows you diddle a little bit and that’s what you get?

I’m also assuming that you still have full control over FX and how you decide to set them. I’m other words the FX isn’t part of the profile...?

Im pretty sure that I’ve decided on the Kemper Stage. Now I just need to find the money somehow. Lol

If youre not in a rush to get a Kemper, the Quad Cortex is a similar thing and it will be out in a month or so.

If you wait, I bet the used market for Kempers will open up.

It’s already out!
Sweetwater has them and they are $100 less than the Kemper.

Backordered forever and delayed multiple times. Interesting unit but the talks of integration with their plug ins has been all over the place. The same with updates and such. I was interested in one and got tired of the wait and hype. Now it has been released to the YouTube Shills and is not all roses. It certainly isn't bad by any means but for me personally, too early to ever want to make the move to one until I can see what is going on with the product and the company etc. This product release and the Line 6 stuff solidifies the talk I shared previously on the market space for a smaller Kemper unit this year.

Agreed.
I have poured over the YouTube comparison vids. The unit sounds excellent, no doubt. But it is still in its infancy and there is no telling how the unit/company will progress from here.
Kemper, otoh is an established product with tons of professional users. They also have an extensive library in rig share and a forum.
Even if the Cortex is a smash hit (I’m sure it will be initially anyway) I don’t think it’s going to topple Kemper from the top of the pile just yet. If anything it will make the company/brand stronger in the name of competition.

I’m not sure I like the layout of the cortex either. It may be strange to say but I feel like it’s too small and not laid out in an intuitive fashion for live stage use.
The foot switch buttons look too close together and I don’t like that they double as an encoder knob. I’m not sure how easy they are to turn but I can easily see them turning when you step on them. Idk, maybe I’m wrong there but it just seems like another thing to possibly go wrong. Also, there is no telling just how robust the switches are...what happens if one breaks? I’m sure it’s not an easy user fixable thing.

It’s just too early to go all in on that unit.

You guys are all a bunch of poser wimps -pay the cost!
  • If your amp's weight doesn't break your back, tear your shoulder and ruin your neck -you haven't paid your dues to the music gods.
  • If you haven't bean forced to try to reseat a tube right before you take stage and burned your hand on the still glowing red hot tube -you haven't paid the toll either.
  • If you haven't been electrocuted from the cap because your Marshall has no back plate and totally taken you out of your cocaine buzz.... you haven't lived.
  • If you don't spend 10 times the amp's actual value over the life of the amp to keep it alive -you just aren't doing your part for the repair industry.
  • If you haven't pushed your amp barefooted in the snow uphill every morning to make it to practice.....
I mean seriously -why are people not ruining themselves by being mostly a moving and logistics company instead of making music these days!

Making music should not be convenient, fun or easy.... you guys are cheating.

You have to suffer for the tone and music.... it's the law... it's the rules..

There are no shortcuts to hell.

:lmao:

I'm going to jam with a bass playing friend today. I'm taking two guitars, with my Mooer GE200 in the gig bag pocket of one, and two cables in the other. I'm going to lie to him and say I'm making a second trip to the car for my amplifier so he'll even let me in.

Hahahahaha.

Back in the 90s -the band Morphine had a rule -you couldn't be in the band unless you could get into the club in one trip. Including the drummer.

Don't know if Kemper has that deep tweak stuff and that is why I like it so much...spent time finding the amp profiles that worked for me, some time tweaking EQ, some time experimenting with FX and nailed about a half a dozen profiles that serve as a base....all that's needed now is some TBM adjs as needed like any tube amp would...

Great....that’s what I wanted to hear.
Do you know if it is capable of profiling pedals as well as amps?
