Simple question/poll. Do you use Straplocks on your guitars? No matter the brand, style, etc. do you use them on some, all or none of your instruments?

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

short version is yes

long version is pretty much yes. there are probably a few guitars that dont have some sort of strap lock on them but they a) have oversized buttons or b) barely come out of the house. all my guitars have their own strap, basically because if i grab a case and head out to a gig there better be a strap on the guitar or its gonna suck. some have dunlop, some have schaller, some just have grolsch rings, but they all have something

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

Used to have Schaller straplox on EVERYTHING. Now I just use those oversize strap buttons I keep finding on cheap Asian stuff - mostly off Washburn/Lyons.

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

Nope. I had strap locks on my guitars in the 80's. The locks tore the strap ends open and one of my guitars dropped during a gig. Never used them since. I just use straps with resilient thick strap ends and don't jump around.

That’s the odd thing, I have more guitars than straps. Thankfully my two main guitars and bass each have a dedicated strap, but I have been known to “borrow”’ it for another guitar. That would be disastrous to show up without a strap!

I’m thinking of getting more straps specifically for certain guitars, and I’m pondering Straplocks for them too.

I’m also considering moving on from the $8.99 nylon strap to a nicer leather strap...

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

Absolutely, on everything. It amazes me that guitars don't automatically come with a better system to hold on to a strap. I am using the new Schaller S-Locks, which are a big improvement over the standard ones of the past 30 years. There is no noise, they are more secure, and have a much better system to install them on a strap.

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

Yeah, mine came in this week- I posted mine on my Instagram last night. They really are a huge improvement.

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

Yep all my guitars. Dunlop. Only Dunlop. Back in the day I used to use Shaller but I grew tired of their lousy design where the nut keeps working loose and the U lock turns itself around.

Switched to Dunlop about 15 years ago and have never once had a failure or problem.

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

Long time Schaller user. Before that, DiMarzio Clip lick and dunlop. However, check out the new $4 D’Addario plastic clips. They fit over the strap, similar to Grolsch washers. I use them on the old guitars so I’m not disturbing the original pins.

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

Dunlop strap locks are mandatory on my instruments.

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

I love me some strap locks. My next guitar will probably have the big rubbery plastic red/black ones that go on the outside of the strap. They seem to work well for me.

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

I only have locks on the Lesters; they have the worst pin design ever. When the guitar is on your body, the pin is pointing at the ceiling begging to jump out of the strap.

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

I use the washers from Grolsch every now and then, but my straps tend to be resistant to falling off.

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

I had one of the Dunlop come apart on me years ago, and thankfully no guitar damage. After that, I went to the Schaller design.

I have the Grolsch beer washers on some guitars

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

I have a dedicated strap for every guitar, and make sure that it is always properly fastened. With a strap lock, things would inevitably go missing, and I just don't want to spend time dealing with that sort of thing.

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

Been playing 40 years.
Been using Dunlop dual design 13 years no issues.
Most horror stories ive heard with straplocks involve user error.
I change the strap part every couple years to keep them fresh.
