Re: Do you use Straplocks?

No, kinda forgot about that for a while...

Dunlop dual straploks, are they good? Fit for MIM strat?

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

I use a version of the washer method. No issues in almost 30 years.

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

Got the original Schallers and got Dunlops, never had a Grolsch to try the washers although they sound like a fine idea.

But really, I've never had one accident ever since I learned how to "wear" the guitar on me.

Still wouldn't kick one out of bed, especially on those older leather straps where the hole has started to widen

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

Who has them in stock?

This Dave. The only place I can find the color I want, the new ruthenium, is on eBay. $24.99. However, Reverb has nickel and chrome for $16.99. I've had nickel on all of my guitars using the old Schaller deign, but now I want to switch to the new design and color. It's more subdued.

However, where are you buying yours, what finish did you get and do you mind sharing the price you paid?

Thanks.

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

I have both Schaller and Dunlop. My favorite so far is the dual-design Dunlop. I haven’t seen the new Schaller yet.

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

Looks like Schaller finally addressed all the problems with the old style but i don't feel like swapping out 10 sets of Dunlops.

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

Almost the first thing I do when I get an axe. If used: clean it, tune it, straplocks. Dont get me wrong, I will play a guitar before locks, but put em on asap

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

Dunlop since the late nineties

Only problem I have had
Is a dog wee'd on one
It seized up and couldn't undo it

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

Yup...every guitar/bass I own (11 at last county) has its own strap and set of strap locks. All but one use the Schaller style.

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

Ordered them on Reverb- $15.99 for chrome w/free shipping. I will replace the old design on the older guitars I have, one at a time. The constant 'clunking' gets to me. The new ones also can't really loosen up.

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

There is one thing I will say about strap locks, they always seem to be one of the first things novice modders put on their instrument. They think it's an easy brick to put in their yellow brick road to a perfect guitar. That and locking tuners as well.

Which brings me to the point that it is stupid that in all this time, there isn't a universal way that securely attaches a strap to a guitar. Even on $5k instruments, we have to go out and buy $15 strap locks. Tradition is a mighty flowing river, man.

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

If manufacturers would just use oversized buttons, I would use Grolsch washers. However if I am going to have to buy new, I get Schaller.

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

I ordered a set off of eBay, I wanted the Ruthenium plating.

I also like the satin pearl for a change of pace from shiny nickel. I try not to use chrome anything as it doesn't age like nickel. I try to use nickel on everything and usually change out chrome parts. I just wish Grover made the 106C locking tuners in nickel, but alas, just shiny chrome that will still be shiny in 100 years. However, I am known to be anal about these things.

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

I ordered the nickel from the Amazon link I posted.

FYI, if you have squeaky, creaky locks, put a little Chapstick or beeswax on both the pin and button.

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

Man Chris, you have a hack for just about everything! These new S-Locks are not supposed make noise, but i'll try it on my older ones.

Re: Do you use Straplocks?

I use only high quality leather straps on my guitars.

Each guitar has its own strap.

I only use Schaller Straplocks.

Don't use straplocks on my acoustics.

Use them on all of my 14 Gibsons. As stated above, their buttons are horrible.

I have 18 G&Ls. Leo Fender designed these buttons and they are excellent. I think only four or five have straplocks. My vintage Music Man guitars us the same button, so no locks.

Two of my three Ibanez guitars have been changed to Schallers.

I'm not one to jump around on stage.
