Re: E flat metal axe poll

Yeah, I'm definitely giving it consideration. From the specs, it's a single-cutaway with a Fender scale, which is something I don't see too often in my guitar brands of choice. Looks fab. Do you have the one with the Brimstone pickups? If so, how do you find those pickups?

I have this one - https://www.schecterguitars.com/guitars/custom/solo-ii-custom-aged-black-satin-detail

Not sure which one you are looking at, mine has a Gibson scale, 24.75". I bought my from a Schecter artist and he had put Duncan Saturday Night Specials in it. Honestly, the Pasadenas may be more to my taste(?) but I haven't tried them.

Re: E flat metal axe poll

I have two Schecter Solo II's, one of them a Custom and the other a Blackjack.
They are great guitars but since you already have an LP shape I figured that you want something different.
A couple models are 25.5 but most are 24.75

Ah, the Solo Custom, right. I had the Hellraiser Solo II Passive on my initial list, here: https://www.schecterguitars.com/gui.../hellraiser-solo-ii-passive-2016-07-21-detail

I'd forgotten about the Custom, though. Good-looking axe. Yeah, if you're going to play metal, the SNS pups probably wouldn't be up your alley. I'm always curious to get people's opinions on Schecter pickups, since they stopped using Duncans and moved to their own in-house models.

I'm going back and forth on that myself. I have an LP shape and a Schecter (C shape), so part of me is itching for a Strat, and perhaps to try something non-Schecter. But really I just want the instrument that will be the best fit for what I'm going to do with it.

Since you have both the Custom and the Blackjack, can you tell me what you think of the pickups?

Re: E flat metal axe poll

Can I throw the Charvel San Dimas Pro Mod hardtail in the mix too?
Another JB/59 guitar, no-load tone pot, splits, great neck.
Not sure what the $-price is.

I second this. I own one though it has a Floyd.
Great guitar for the money. Well built, the
workmanship is top notch. The feel and
playability are again top notch.

Re: E flat metal axe poll

If you like blue and want something different that matches your sonic needs, go for the LTD H3.

One of my favourite LTD models, hindered by the lack of finish options.

Thanks for the rec. Been intrigued by the H3 for a while. What do you like about it? How does the Custom 5 handle metal?

I really like the look, like a SuperStrat with a twist.

The Custom 5 may sound a little scooped, but I tried it on a friend's guitar and really liked it. I don't own one yet.

The woods on the guitar really scream Ceramic Custom to me. But it's an easy swap if you decide on this guitar and the stock pickups aren't your cup of tea.

JB_From_Hell had a great idea for your options list.

PRS SE are awesome guitars, if you like the look. My 30th Anniversary Custom 24 Flametop has a Custom bridge snd a PG neck, and it sounds awesome and plays like butter.

Thanks for this! My only reservation about the PRS SE line (or I'd have put it in the poll) are: can the pickups handle thrash in E flat? I think your anniversary SE is out of my price range.

Re: E flat metal axe poll

The purple one color morphs like a working man's EBMM finish, turns blue, purple and 24 frets. I even like how they put the fret markers on the treble side at the higher frets

Re: E flat metal axe poll

I was going to recommend buying the Jackson and putting Distortions in it, but it already has Distortions.

Stock pickups on mine were kind of meh... installing the SD set really gave it life.

However, depending on what amp you use, the stck ones might get you there.

Try checking out used ones, since it was a limited run.

I know, it's got the right pups for the job already. The MAH in "carmel poplar burl" isn't my absolute favorite look -- there are other candidates on the list that look way better to my eyes -- but it's solid, and the instrument itself is a metal machine, has all the appointments (ebony board, compound radius, etc.).

Thing is, if I'm spending around $1000 USD on a guitar, I don't want to have to swap out the pups. You know what I mean? Also, I'm using a Boss Katana 50 amp, and have no plans (or cash) to change/upgrade, so whatever I get will have to play nice / sound metal enough through that amp.

Anyhow, I'll check out used ones to be thorough. Thanks!

Re: E flat metal axe poll

I voted Jackson, because those NEKZ! but esp or schecter would work too.

I know, right? I have two Soloists, and I love them. I want another one so I can do the Slayer thing up right.
