Alright! So, after I visited my local taylor dealer and talked a lot with him, we deceided on a price including taxes for a 414, no cutaway, no electronics. I then waited a couple of weeks to think it over. The major down sides were that I wouldn't get to play the guitar before buying it (I know that if I didn't like it he might have taken it back but...) and the fact that I would spend most of the money I kept for hard times between the end of my master degree and me finding a job (I could've used this money to put a bigger cashdown on a car next year)....
So, last week-end I was in Montreal to play an acoustic show (which turned out to be two shows in two days) in a huge private party and in a bar downtown. So the day before I went to a shop to grab a couple packs of strings and deceided to have a peek in the acoustic room. Well, turns out they had one of these 414 without cutaway and electronics. I played it for maybe 20 minutes :32:, took a look at the price tag and then started talking with the salesman. I was able to get him to sell it 300$ lower than the other guy, include the taxes and include a couple extra things like a humidifier and such... I really got a good deal on this thing compared to what I would've paid here in Qc....
Only bad thing: I asked him what gauge strings were on it and he said medium/light... I came home and took a look at the taylor Website only to find out that they STRONGLY advise you to use light strings on there, being concerned with the solid top being pulled too hard by heavier gauges... I could've made a mistake if I wouldn't have double checked so the store got a minus for that...
Anyways, I played this thing a home and man does it sound beautiful! I really really love that ovankol wood, it is pretty close to rosewood but with just a little more caracter, still very warm but with a little more sparkle to it... I'm in love, this will be one heck of a guitar for years to come for me....
I'll try to post some pics tonight....
Just felt like sharing....
