Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

I'm surprised that so many folks are asking for a tapped single, to go between vintage and high-output. Don't we already have those bases covered with the SSL-3/4/5/6/7 tapped pups? Or am I missing something . . . again? :)

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

honestly what id like is a 10k/6.5k tapped alnico II flat pole heavy scatter tall magnet strat pup with 42 awg and a baseplate. kinda like the custom shop tapped hot tele bridge but for a strat. we did a bucker last time why not try a single coil this time.

If we go for a single coil it should be the ultimate bridge pup for Strats - Jeremy's idea fits the description in my book... could work even without the coil tap or could be a little hotter....
I think however that it should be a staggerd pup... or have both options...

I'm with you on that one... +1. I'll buy it...

Edit:
I'll even buy a guitar to throw it in... :)

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

I know the kids have some tooth fairy money laying around...

Sorry I just have to chime in...It's VERY funny you said that, I just got my wisdom teeth taken out a few days ago!

I think a complimentary set would be a great Idea...then again it would be 3 pickups instead of 1.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

Since there was a lot of hoopla about the Alnico 8 magnet last year, why don't we put Seymour on a mission to give us the ultimate A8 pickup??? Instead of simply putting an Alnico 8 magnet in a Custom, find the optimum combination to make Alnico 8 sound perfect! Some thought the Custom 8 had a bit too much string pull, so maybe back it down a little?

If it turned out to be the hottest and most toneful rock/metal pickup, it'd sell like crazy as a new addition to the Duncan line!

+1! I've been thinking of that too.

We don't have a tapped 5/2.:D I love the APS-2 in the neck of my Strat,But the low E & A Strings get mushy/Muddy. Tap one of them suckers to spec.X.
Now you have a true custom PuP. Some of the tapped singles we have are way to HOT for a neck PuP (I don't want it to sound to dark) maybe 7.5k to 5.5k. But looks like where going Bucker anyway.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

That's not a bad idea either. The only problem is figuring out how to switch the tapped strat pickup. The best way would be with a Fender S-1 switch, where the switch is a button on the knob. I'd be game for one of those on my strats!

For humbuckers, I still think the A8 humbucker or a Custom/59 hybrid would be good Forum Pickups.
I even have a name for the A8 pickup. The Ace Eight!

Or 8 ball.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

It's all about the humbucker huh..... Why not have a really, really great single coil pup.

and not a humbukcer sized single coil ( I've never been a big fan of those)

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

alnico 8 would drive up the price since its not a magnet that seymour carries and he would have to buy a lot of them

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

LIL 78 THAT LOOKS LIKE A NORMAL SINGLE!

im gonna post this every few pages ^^ cause its just an awesome idea for us strat wielding EVH-er's (good tone-ers) ;P

and from just aobut EVERYTHING ive read its a great PUP even from the NON Evh fans.

+1000

I do have an extra hot classic stack that MJ wound for me and it looks like a normal single coil. But I'd love something voiced to the 78 tone. Maybe make it around 12K for the extra upmph it needs because of position, and then when split it sounds exactly like a normal strat single coil.

A full, authentic sounding bucker that looks like a single what I vote for.

A wolf in sheep's clothing. We could call it "Wolfie".

I think a "JB-lite" would be a wonderful pickup. You know, a less harsh and more vintage version of the JB but, with the signature JB qualitys.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

I don't usually pipe in on too many pickup threads here, but this is my suggestion:

I'd like to see Seymour improve on the "P-90 in a humbucker housing" (sorry, but the Phat Cats don't sound like P90s). Something modeled after the real vintage Gibson pickups that had that really nice bite to them, but still had the clarity and it'd be really cool to see the rare "Alnico V/ Staple type pickup" in a humbucker format (for the folks that want the '54 LP Custom Black Beauty sounds in a humbucker guitar).

It's definitely something that would be a far departure than anything Duncan has done so far.

+1!!!

I'm with the_Chris! Let's do a P90 style, within a humbucker sized format. Last year, I was musing on an A5 Phat Cat...perhaps calling it a Phat Five. The thread was very informative, with members giving of their knowledge/opinions/photos, far beyond anything I ever knew! P90 styles are THE growth area for pickups, in an already super saturated market.

I just want the most wild sounding P90 with aggression (not necessarily the "hottest" by silly numbers)...and a tap for hell of it for Strat-y lower output, if this wonderful mosh-pit of ideas takes that direction.

If one were to pin me on what tone I have in my head...it would be somthing like the first BLACK SABBATH album. Tony Iommi used a Strat until it broke...and his P90 equipped SG. I would LOVE the ability to switch between both tones, ala tapped coil.

I already dig the look of the Phat Cat, and more importantly, the way it shields "noise".

Rail version of a Phat Cat? (Call it the Dog Sled)

Cool Rails Tele bridge?

+1 AT!

I must have deleted the paragraph about my love of blades (I dont know if Evan wants to create a whole new cover), but I will say a solid cover over blades squelches all the vintage/modern/trem spacing issues...as well as answers the bending/output probs. Solid covers are great for reducing hum.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

i dont think a vintage JB is the answer...but a more modern JB with the same awesome harmonics with tightened lows and maybe a tad thicker with dual blades.... this would be awesome like a super JB....the same alnico 5 would be cool too.

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

maybe an overwound custom 5 with dual blades can make this happen...it would have a more defined bottom end, more midrange, and a nice top end

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

I'm glad you mentioned that because I was going to suggest an alnico 4 humbucker.

honestly what id like is a 10k/6.5k tapped alnico II flat pole heavy scatter tall magnet strat pup with 42 awg and a baseplate. kinda like the custom shop tapped hot tele bridge but for a strat. we did a bucker last time why not try a single coil this time.

An ultimate single coil Strat bridge pup seems like an excellent goal to me! (Having said that, I'm in love with my Twang Banger..)

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

Hmmmm... how about a ultra mojo version of the 59/Custom Hybrid?

I would suggest a Brobucker/Custom Hybrid!

5k 42 Gauge Brobucker Coil
AND
7.2k 43 Gauge Custom Coil

Aged A5 magnet

Now that would absolutely be a KILLER pickup!

Re: Forum Bonus! Custom Shop Pickup for You!

all seems like a good idea and im interesting in the run if the pickup that gets selected is of interest to me.

The Ultimate distortion bucker sounds cool, Retaining the custom SH5's vibe but taking away the ceramic without turning into a CC or C5. Recently tho im just pretty much hooked on the '78 neck in my strat.. id make one exactly the same but with vintage correct parts like butyrate bobbins, maybe missmatched coil and in zebra ofcourse :bigok:

The lil'78 for strat that looks like a real single coil would be cool too but i think would be impossible..

Hybrid with mojo sounds like annother cool idea but doesnt that go against the dmz deal that they cant sell that kinda hybrids?
