Free guitar to a good home - giveaway

Re: Free guitar to a good home - giveaway

I am a bit surprised by the attitudes. I reminds me of the tourists I would see in downtown Boston. They warn each other not to give the homeless money because they will spend it on drugs or alcohol. If you are going to do something charitable, just do it. If you have reservations about it don't. However, don't talk someone out of doing something good because you have reservations.

Not my intention. Just relating my story after hearing about the guy who suggested he should get the donation guitar.

I couldn't agree more, but he has done some serious trolling and been banned from other places for it. Now, who do we know that would use a guitar?

Re: Free guitar to a good home - giveaway

I am not pointing at anyone in particular just general attitudes. I had a company ready to donate a body and neck. They decided to pass after reading some of the venom in these threads. The goal was to get the guitar in the hands of someone financially strapped. Maybe help out someone that got their gear ripped off or lost it in a fire. If I help someone great, if I get hustled for a set of tuners and a neck plate, o well.

Re: Free guitar to a good home - giveaway

I'm down for helping a deserving soul... I don't have a lot left over after mocking up my project, but whatever I have left is in the pot.

IMO GuitarFanatic wasn't even close to being in the running.

Re: Free guitar to a good home - giveaway

I I think that is a great thing to help someone out, but in my opinion charity starts at home. A few years ago I donated an Epiphone Les Paul to be auctioned off to raise money locally. If you don't have the money to do something like that, try to raise money for guitars for your local Boys and Girls Club. After that you could go back and give group lessons to them. There are a million different options out there besides getting ripped off by some con artist jackass on the Internet.

Re: Free guitar to a good home - giveaway

I will state quite plainly that I do not believe in charity. Which is not to say that I am above investing in an individual whom I consider to be worthy of the effort. There is a difference.

Re: Free guitar to a good home - giveaway

That thread isn't really "charity". It's a 16 year old attempting petty online theft.

Re: Free guitar to a good home - giveaway

I'd got a couple parts laying around I could send to help out, or worst case I can use some money to buy something if none of us happen to have it haha. Count me in to help

Re: Free guitar to a good home - giveaway

In the past people have been kind and gifted me stuff, when I coincidentally needed them, that includes someone from this forum ( you know who you are, and thanks buddy.). I like to return the gesture and I have given stuff away in the not so distance past, and will continue doing so. I dont have stuff that I could contribute, and even if I had shipping would be a nightmare from here. But I support this cause.. it just needs to go into the right hands.

IndianScout.

Oh, wait.

Re: Free guitar to a good home - giveaway

Yeah, and what are you going to do to ensure you don't get hustled, besides try to lay a guilt
trip on people who don't appreciate that kid trying to snow them over?.

If you don't want to contribute that is fine, don't click on the link. Jumping in the thread blowing it up and insulting other members is not productive. I am not going to turn this thread into a pissing match on who is and who isnt deserving. If you have no desire to get involved in a project that not only helps someone but builds community here, fine. You attitude since first posting here clearly shows that you have no desire to be part of the community.

What is your next move going downtown and flipping over Girl Scout's cookie tables?

Re: Free guitar to a good home - giveaway

I normally wouldn't do this but I just went through a tail spin when my dad died and as a result of a culmination of terrible decisions on my part I no longer have a guitar and am hating life. The good news is I'm doing much better personally mentally that is but am having a bit harder time getting myself back on my feet financially and a guitar would really make me happy and alot of other people I'm sure, but I figured I'm no worse off if I were to throw out there where I'm at in my life right now and hope some great luck might come my way. No matter what happens I do have some parts around I can send to someone when It's figured out what's needed no matter what the outcome. I just think it's a great idea all around. I'm just glad the world still has kind people in it. You can look at some of my builds on photobucket. Guitargasass is my tag on photobucketnand I would be more then happy to pass on th good fortune to another member when I get back on my feet. I know not many or possibly any of you know me personally but I assure you I go out of my way to be as kind and giving as I can. I just can't tell you how happy I am there's still people out there who want to help people who have fell into a bit of tough luck to help them beleive in the good in the world again. I'd like to see this become a ongoing thing on the fourm and woul be more then willing to build a body or neck should everything work itself out in the future. I moved most of this fron the treading post because there were multiple posts for the same thing and I wasn't sure which was the correct one to be posting under. Tanks for taking the time to read my thread. I'm not saying I'm the one that deserves this particular guitar but geeze it would help regain my faith in humanity and the world at this moment. And either way let me know if there's anything I can do to help move this great idea along.

Worse yet, theft by implied, and accepted, guilt.
That being said, I now have available an RG-120 body, agathis, with most of the tremolo bridge. No string saddles. Don't ask, it's a long story. I could consider investing it in a worthy cause.

Might I suggest reading something by Ayn Rand? "The Virtue of Selfishness" maybe http://www.enotes.com/topics/virtue-selfishness
