Re: Gibson Trademarks 335 Shape

I don't disagree with that, what I disagree with is the use of the overall generalization that things in China are made more cheaply.

It is not a generalization it is a fact. Manufacturing standards in China across the board are much lower than they are in America. Making this more troubling is it is standard practice in Chinese manufacturing to pump product off the line built to the manufacturer's spec only in the initial runs. As production continues the plant will find ways to cut costs on everything from packaging to raw components. Another way Chinese manufacturers subsidize their low production costs is buy stealing the client's intellectual property. Actual product and knock-offs to be sold in other markets will come off the same production line with the original products eventually bearing the components of the knock-offs. The chinese pedal, pickup or guitar you buy or try today will most likely be very different than the one you buy next month. The driving force in Chinese manufacturing is cost not quality. If you are really interested in learning more about it I would suggest reading “Poorly Made in China” by Paul Midler.

Only on this forum are people so quick to interpret a casual back and forth as some kind of Internet combat. Disagreeing with people is not the same as being openly hostile.

I didn't realize that this was your first time on an internet forum.

I can accept as fact that manufacturing standards in China are lower, as standards are lower in China for all sorts of things, but that doesn't mean that each and every product made in China is inferior to equivalent products made in the US. To say that any single US product should be favored over a Chinese made one because "standards are lower in China" is a generalization, and doesn't give consideration to whether or not that particular Chinese product shows any lack of quality relative to an US made counterpart. Secondarily, there's the issue of whether such quality differences, if they exist for a given product, justifies the difference in cost.

Re: Gibson Trademarks 335 Shape

Just out of curiosity, what are the basis of the reports? Aside from some people saying "groan" and the like, this thread look pretty civil to me.

well, not to belabor the obvious, but ginormous did already provide "insulting forum members is not allowed... by anyone... ever" as a basis for deletion of the post previously known as #132.

Re: Gibson Trademarks 335 Shape

Give me ONE example of a Chinese product that is as good or better than its American counterpart. I can name countless American made products that blow away the Chinese made stuff. I just want one.

chinese chinese food is better than American chinese food

Re: Gibson Trademarks 335 Shape

Joyo doesn't count, because they're definitely not better than whatever pedals they're ripping off.

This could be considered "begging the question" (traditional meaning of the phrase). It's nearly impossible to answer, because there's the issue of what "as good or better" constitutes, and whether or not the quality of the American version constitutes overkill, especially relative to the price. For example, boutique pedal makers often boast that their pedals are hand made, and that this is a major reason they're more expensive, but is a hand wired pedal really of higher quality in the first place, and do the benefits justify the much higher cost? Keep in mind that you don't see a lot of hand-wired US made HD TVs being offered, it really seems that the appeal of such things is particular to electric guitar, and some other specialized audio related interests.

I posted this question before that action was taken.

It is impossible to answer. Simply because there is no Chinese product that is better in quality than its American counterpart. It is like trying to compare Kias and Mercedes. It simply can't be done because they are on two different levels of manufacturing standards.

DreX, you are arguing with people that spent their youth holding guitars and incredible amounts of money on gear in their personal quests for their sound. Do you not for one second think that maybe they know what they're talking about? Call me crazy, but perhaps they've actually tried the cheap Chinese junk and said, "Hey! It plays like garbage and sounds like garbage so I guess it must be garbage.

For reasons unknow to 90% of the members on this forum you perpetuate useless arguments just for the sake of doing so and then play the victim, crying foul and sitting back in your recliner, refreshing the page every three seconds so you can immediately jump down the next poster's throat. In what bizarro-land realm of reasoning does that give you any right to demonize anyone for being argumentative. There are countless threads that started off quite informative and then get nuked because you jump in and stir up angst.

We've all tried reasoning with you, we've all tried ignoring you, Hell - I've tried being nice to you and nothing works
Every attempt at civil discourse falls on deaf ears and is met with angry keystrokes.

I'll take the hit on this one because this thread has imploded. I'm out.

Also, there's no way this thread was going to be civil.
