of all the time u'd own these, how much of it would be spent playing in total darkness after sitting under a light for 30 seconds to charge them?

or less?

A black light will also cause them to glow.

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

Would a black light cause these bobbins to glow any differently than, say, white bobbins? I don't know the answer. Anyone?

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

Last time I played a white bobbin humbucker, there actually was a black light in the room (Halloween party). It was in a buddy's guitar. The white covers on his single coils glowed but the white humbucker didn't. It's all in the material.

I believe you'd get the green color under a black light, unlike the bright white color you'd see from a plain white pup.

Definitely a cool idea. It would look great in that pink Soloist I saw. I don't think it'll be as popular as the JB, but I think there's a market. Just look at some of Mike's (XSSIVE) guitars!

not everyone is a bedroom guitarist :fing25:

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

I don't want this to sound harsh...but IMO, if this an example of the new products/direction Duncan is looking into and not actual USEFUL things like say the "infamous" overwound PAF...this is very disappointing to me as a consumer. Why would you test the market with this and not an overwound PAF? Cost is the only reason I could see.

Again not trying to hijack to the overwound PAF...just using that as an example of products people ask(beg) for...I can't imagine glow in the dark buckers are...'cept maybe at halloween?

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

no need for a G*I*D pup, personally ... it is an interesting move from a company mostly associated with excelling in a traditional way ... i wouldve been less surprised if it was a dimarzio

good luck

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

Ick. Where's that barfing smiley when I need him? About the only more cheesy and passe finish option I can think of would be a hologram topped pickup.

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

i dont know about solid colors, but if you could get graphics like flames or a neon red pentagram or something like that to glow in the dark that would be kick-ass :headbang:

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

imo, there is a market for it and if you ask me, it'd be better to list it under color options with a bit of an upcharge rather than custom shop options..

it might seem cool to the odd person and he buys it for a fun project, and i do not see anyone actualy ordering a CS pup just cos of the bobbins..
you will be cutting into sales if this is CS only.

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

Yeah, I'd say it would be at least as possible (probably more) as offering say, blue coloured humbuckers

Wasn't the question of an overwound PAF answered with the full shred? I don't think the glow in the dark bobbins are necessarily a bad idea but I wouldn't make them on anything but a custom basis right now. I'm thinking maybe give some real popular flashy players with lots of stage antics the glow in the dark pickups and see if kids/people respond and "have to have them". That's my best marketing idea :nervous:.

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

I'm really trying to keep this thread on the subject of whether or not glow in the dark bobbins are cool or lame; and not on why or why not other products were or were not put into production.

Help me out, will ya?

Shall I PM you my address? :D

Seriously, I'd be happy to do a full feature on them on Shredaholic.com if you'd like Evan - maybe something like a news feature, review, or interview about them. Apart from kids/people who'd be interested, lots of flashy players visit our site and/or are contacted or featured by us - eg. Rustey Cooley, Francesco Fareri, Michael Angelo Batio, and a ton of artists from guitar9.com

I wouldn't write a full feature yet. There are only a dozen glow in the dark pickups in existence at this point. And if it turns out to be a lame idea, it'll probably just go away. I'm really just interested in your "cool vs. lame" opinions at this point.

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

i say cool, but i'm stuck in the 80's

why not make a poll?

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

see the thing thats interesting in my opinion is that if you scroll down on the link that Evan gave the pickup looks almost completely traditional when not glowing in the dark. its not some odd shade of bright green like most other glow in the dark objects, and certainly would look 100% traditional to the audience during a stage performance till they cut the lights...
Very interesting
