Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

I would buy them. I think that having something like flames that glow in the dark on the bobbins but cant be seen when its not glowing would be cool. Or perhaps stripes or a pattern of some sort.

see the thing thats interesting in my opinion is that if you scroll down on the link that Evan gave the pickup looks almost completely traditional when not glowing in the dark. its not some odd shade of bright green like most other glow in the dark objects, and certainly would look 100% traditional to the audience during a stage performance till they cut the lights...
Very interesting
That's one way of getting around the double creme patent that Dimarzio has. Looks more of an opaque double creme than white when in light. Actually an item that might look better when it's NOT glowing ... hmmm

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

I remember when those glow in the dark picks came out (coincidentally in the mid-late 80's) and thinking (at the time) how neat it was but the fad lost it's appeal. Do they still make them picks? I believe they were Clayton. Throw in a set of these with a set of the Glowing Duncans and you are FUture Nuked (can I trademark that name?? haha)

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

:lame: I wouldn't even consider them in my Les Paul or in an American Strat. IMO, they are gimmic pickups for gimmic guitars.

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

how often do people play in the dark? okay, vai does it with his whole fiber optic suit but most players want to be seen when they play. the green glow makes them seem a little tacky and cheap. if there were real lights (fiber optics or something) it would be cooler although that would require a battery of some sort...sorry, its a neato idea but not very practical

Niether is lighting your guitar on fire but amazingly the guitarist that pulled that little "impracticality" became well known among the non-guitar playing comunity because of it ;)

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

with hendrix lighting his guitar on fire or pete whirling his arm around its different. sure, those are impractical things to do but it was them doing them, not the gear. having pickups that glow is neato but i dont really see the point if its a dull greenish color. i think im just not diggin the green

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

I say leave the gimmicks and cliches to the other guys. Concentrate on TONE!

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

I think it's kinda cool. Make one that has black bobbins in the light, and red in the dark, and I'll be all over it!

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

Here we go, ask the mold injector if they have any white plastic that quickly ages into a double cream?--- and for us Gear Head Science types-- Clear-see through -- too.. heheh!

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

Sounds cool to me, although, I'm not sure I'd deliberately order some that way

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

I can imagine they'd be quite cool; if it was 1986 and I was in Poison or something :D

On a serious note, they are kinda cool, if nothing more than a gimmick, but nothing I'd ever buy myself.

Re: Glow In The Dark Humbuckers?

I think they would distract too much from my ears that also glow in the dark when I'm on stage. Furthermore my DiMarzios already glow in the dark - soundwise, that is... ;)
