Re: Help removing epoxy?
Oh the (silly) things people do (with reference to epoxy).
I mean: if this was just to cover up some wording on the headstock why go to that amount of trouble??? You could accomplish the same thing with a heavy black permanent marker (a few coats would do the trick) and it wouldn't be a problem.
How sure are you that a) this was ONLY done to cover up some wording and b) that if it was indeed done just to cover up some wording then it's the word "Professional" underneath???
Anyways. How much do you know about this guitar as a matter of interest??? Reason I ask (and being a "Jackson Junkie") I looked around the Internet today at Jackson headstocks and Jackson headstock logos (because I've never personally seen a Jackson with anything more than just "Jackson" on the headstock). So far as I can tell: none of the new Professional Series have the word "Professional" on the headstock. The only other Jackson I was able to find with the word "Professional" on the headstock was one of the Randy Rhoads Professional models (see interesting link here:
http://audiozone.dk/index-filer/jackson-pro-professional.php).
Notwithstanding the above: it would seem that the "USA Select" Series does indeed show "Made In USA" on the headstocks.
Whatever the case: I'm not sure I'd try removing that stuff if it is indeed epoxy or even superglue. Chances of removing whatever it is without affecting what's below are pretty slim in my opinion. What's more and based on what I found (as noted above): that should be a pretty darn decent Jackson. Might be worth to rather take it to someone and have the job done proper (and nicely cover those holes in the body too). What I'm saying is that this may just NOT be your crappiest guitar!!!
Oh and for the record I found this ("taped off razor blade trick") as mentioned, quite correctly, by @larryguitar:
https://www.stewmac.com/How-To/Online_Resources/Neck_Building_and_Repair_and_Setup/Hiding_an_evil_smile_peghead_break_with_the_Razor_Blade_Trick.html.
P.S.
Dumb question but have you by any chance tried cigarette lighter fluid??? Seen this stuff take off all sorts of things without damage. You never know.
P.P.S.
Just took a look at my Jacksons. How sure are you that the word "Jackson" is original on your particular guitar??? I could be way off of the mark here but it sure could be possible, given the logo, that the entire headstock has been redone at some point???
P.P.P.S
Never mind. Ignore the above. Just took another look at the logo on the Rhoads model(s). Yours is identical. Evidently Jackson did change the design of the logos at some point later on.
