Re: Help!!!!

Ok I'm thinking I want a JB and the '59 should I still go for the trembucker versions or humbucker since I'm switching the setup?

you only need trem-spacing for the bridge. get a regular-spaced 59

use 500K pots

the site I posted earlier in this thread has the pots, caps, and pickguard for cheap, even wire if you need some. If you want to take the upgrades a step further, you can get this: http://store.guitarfetish.com/minmeimstupt.html - only $35

and make sure you check Ebay - I picked up a brand new trem-spaced JB for $62 shipped a few weeks ago . . . and used Duncans are a good option too

Re: Help!!!!

Ok so the JB Model TB-4 and '59 Model SH-1. Got it. I don't know what pots or caps are. I just tried looking for 500K pots and there were like different kinds and stuff. If I went to my local guitar shop and just brought in the pickguard, pickups, and guitar to have them rewire it, would they know what pots and caps I need?

if you go to a local tech with a good reputation, you'll be ok. call him up in advance, make sure he has parts on hand.

http://store.guitarfetish.com/guelco.html

check that out if you want to just walk in with all the parts. assuming you're doing a 1 volume - 1 tone setup and 2 humbuckers, you need 2 500K Alpha pots and 1 .022 orange drop capacitor from that page. the Switchcraft style mono jack for $2 would be a good idea too since the Squier models don't always have reliable jacks.

if it were my guitar, I'd add a nicer 5-way switch as well but it all depends on your budget.

wow, I've spent way too much time on the boards today . . . :eyecrazy:

Re: Help!!!!

if "**** the budget" is the case, you might as well get some quality electronics for about $10 dollars more. i suggest CTS pots and an orange drop cap, and both can be found here:http://shop.wymoreguitars.com/category.sc?categoryId=16
for your application, i suggest short shaft/split shaft 500k audio taper pots, and a .022 orange drop cap. they've also got 5-way and super-5-way switches, and push pull pots if you want to get some crazy wiring happening(like coil cuts/swap mod, series/parallel, out of phase, etc..). if you take it to a good enough tech they could wire this stuff up.

Re: Help!!!!

Wow...I don't wanna get too crazy hahaha but yeah I'll look into those caps and pots. Why would I need a 5-way switch on two humbuckers? Don't I just need a 3-way? Thanks!

Re: Help!!!!

with a standard 5-way, you can get separate coil cuts, and with a super 5-way you can have (from what i understand)series and out of phase wirings. does your pickguard have room for 2 or 3 potentiometers??
