Re: How critical is a tight fit at the neck pocket for bolt ons??
You (or anyone) could have the best of gear and that dude (or anyone) could still play that thing through his 30 watt spider & sound a zillion times better..so yeah..it's in the fingers.
When did he turn the gain down(!?) ..& frankly that's kind of a cliched (& dumb) argument you hear from 99% of people who've got a problem with shred/shredders (cuz they can't shred) . The truth is he was picking pretty cleanly & that would come through on the oldest & rarest cult amp on the planet.
You'd be surprised.
I've got no problem with awesome old blues guys either..
Does that mean I think they're better or more talented? ....Not by a long shot...apples & oranges.
Tone is subjective..there is no "real tone". You are'nt going to be playing great death metal with low output Paf's through an antique Fender at the verge of breakup...you won't even manage Iron Maiden.
Your post reminds me of my dad...he'd always say that metal guys only played so fast & mind-bogglingly awesome because they had rubber bands on their guitars and there was a well-trained classical or Jazz musician backstage who was actually doing the playing....in other words , he was talking rubbish...(but at least he was joking)
Nothing is "in the fingers" for purposes of legitimate gear discussion. And ntothign surprised me.

That idiots sweep pick and tapping turns to slop when the gain is turned down.

There isnt honestly one lick in that guys repoitoire that would fly on a ol skool cranked Deluxe reverb.
You'd be surprised.
Thats why old blues guys are so great. They play clean-on-the -edge of breakup, and they have to have real contact with fingers on strings, and clean and sherp licks, with a lot of muscle ...not that junk the fool hear is trying to pass off as legitimate.

Its the high output pickup doing all of that guys sustain.it picks up more vibrations from that POS plank that he is using. The point os for real tone, you need a great piece of wood, and a lower power older PAF style pickup. The betetr and older the wod is, the more traditonally l;ower output and better , sweeter tone through a amp that isnt all about compression, but has more old skpooo sag and sweeter cleans.

No, tis isnt a surprise at all. You could use a concrte block with sweep and tpappin with a a staruated compreessed amp.
