A hard pill to swallow but ...... if you had the same gear Rory was using you still wouldn't sound like him but if he came to your house and used your gear .... he would sound like Rory. Rory's gear wasn't anything special just a Strat, an AC30 or a Fender Tweed (cranked to the max) and sometimes a treble booster. Like all the true greats Rory had his own way of doing things which gave him a unique sound. Having said all that, I have a JV Strat with a Bare Knuckle Irish Tour p/u in the bridge and it is certainly well into the right area tonally. If you have a Strat that's worth upgrading the Bare Knuckles will get you moving in the right direction. Tim Mills (Bare Knuckles founder) is a genius. I'm in the market for some new buckers for one of my guitars and I'm not considering anything but Bare Knuckles. Just need to save some pennies because they're not cheap.

I watched the video and saw an old Strat plugged into a Marshall JMP Combo. Might want to start there :bigthumb:

I like this answer. Once the confidence is there (which comes from practice and knowing your guitar intimately) you can let loose and have fun. That's the main thing I got from watching the video: he was having a blast and not at all concerned with the sound beyond switching pickups from rhythm to lead and back.

I wish the people on this forum would stop focussing so much on looking for the miracle cure for lack of practice..... there is no alternative to hard work.
Never heard the saying that genius is 1% inspiration , 99% perspiration ???
His Strat was just a normal Strat and has a maple neck with a rosewood board.. it's just PLAYED HARD, so it's darkened.
Apparently the body was so soaked with sweat that the wood had softened and was like a piece of cork.
If you watch him you'll see he's constantly messing with his tone controls.
The guy was a genius with a Strat.
Wanna sound like him.. EASY.. wanna play like him ?? GOOD LUCK :butkick:

Woah! Calm down man. This was just a joke thread. I was just watching the video and decided to post it. It's because people always say, I need this players tone. I never understood this because you will get nowhere if you sound exactly like someone else but to each his own.
