GuitarStv, I believe Pepe's intention isn't to completely start over but hammer down certain specifics that we never got to talk about. After all the initial idea was his to begin with :)

These specs were already hammered out. A '59/Custom hybrid for the neck. It would be made filister/slug (as both pickups under consideration were), one coil from a '59n and one coil a slightly underwound custom. If you go changing the screws/slugs around you're not going to get a '59/Custom hybrid. It'll be something new and different. We already voted against new and different.

The only question remaining is which coil should come from the '59n and which one from the Custom. Maybe what percentage under-wind should the custom be.

Just to throw my two cents in, the underwound percentage of the Custom coil should be the same as the '59n in respect to the '59b, which I believe is just less than 10% if we go by the published resistance specs of both '59s.

This idea, or making a neck Custom, then using half of it's coil would be acceptable. Anything other than this will not be true to the intention of a "neck '59/Custom" concept. If the forum deviates from a basic coil match up using screws and slugs, I hope they don't try to call it the "neck '59/Custom" since that would be yet another misnamed pickup to add to an already large pile.

Maybe next time the appointed ref should be someone who openly states they will not buy the pickup and has no personal interest in the outcome, but does have an interest in seeing the process through to the end. I get the feeling the conductor is threatening to derail the train if the passengers don't want to end up at the same destination he has in mind.

Just a notice, guys. Please try to keep this train on the tracks and not derail it yourself. I understand some of you guys are frustrated, but let's not speak about LtKojak but instead speak with him about the issues you find in the process. Once you start talking about the person with whom you disagree you've already lost the argument by giving up talking about the issue at hand.

Honestly, I'd say it's probably best for everyone if the Custom Shop recieved the simple instructions to "Make a neck pickup that matches the '59/Custom Hybrid. Go nuts. Make it happen." That way, there's a much smaller chance that all of us will screw it up.

And for the record, I didn't vote in this poll. I think I stayed out of the last one as well. I'm just pretty detached from the whole forum pickup thing by now, and I'm offering the opinion of someone who doesn't really have any biases in the project anymore.

It's been pretty quiet, although the voting proceeds slowly but surely.

However, what's gonna be the winner is a no-brainer, if you ask me... ;)
