I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Okay... I have decided to tell all of you, how I can afford this guitar with a loan :)

Ever since we were small, me and my sister have each had a child savings account.

They dont receive any more money now, and they have a total of 5500 dollars each. My mother refused to let me use it before I was 21, and the only reason she said yes to let me make a bank loan on them this early, was because it wasnt a car or something like that.

It was something, that she knew I had been talking about for a long time.

That is how that, if I cant pay it off before I am 21, it will be 100% paid off when I am 21.

I myself is have to pay 1500dollars, to pay the last bit of the guitar, and loan expenses.

This was my choice, to get my dream guitar this soon :)

I hope this story perhaps helped to see that I can finance it without going dead on my economy

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

...I don't think demolishing your savings account will make this a better argument either :laugh2:

Honestly I think you'll feel better about it if you get it when you're richer and don't have to go into debt and destroy your savings in the process. Plenty of people COULD empty their savings and buy a new Ferrari, but don't because... well, you know ;)

Think of all the other stuff you can buy first without blowing this on one thing. I REALLY hope material objects (and only one :laugh2: can make you happy.

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

That sound like free money for the bank to me. Getting a loan for money that you already have on an account of yours, probably at the same bank. So they have your money lying around and loaning it to other people without giving you any kind of decent interest, then they borrow it back to you, charge loan expenses and interest and most likely screw something up with the highly trained specialists they have.

In my humble opinion, it doesn't make sense that your mother allows you to take a loan on this money in this account. She should either release the money to save the extra bank costs or not do it.

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

This story keeps taking turn after turn anfter turn! The way I look at it is, if you really want this guitar, and no other one will do. Instead of blowing your savings account only to pay it all back, keep your savings...........Deposit money in there little by little (you say you can easily build up $5,500 in 4 years) by the time you're 21 you could have doubled your bank account to $11,000.

That is some sweet "starting" out money, Plus if you still want this particular Gibbo you can affor it and still have a nice nest egg to spare. Not to mention that in those 4 years your taste might change.

A fool and his money are soon parted...

I know you won't listen to anyones advice here, but you REALLY should.

At some point you'll wish you had that money...

For $6500 you could buy a pair of real '70s LP's and modify them with money left over... they won't go down in value either. Nor would I be worried about taking that out of the house...

Do yourself a favor and get an insurance policy on the guitar.

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

I wish you good luck with your quest..
There are no LP#s worth the money...But you happyness is worth the money. So do it...
but..
1)you buy something that you didn't tested...You tested maybe the same model..But not that guitar!
2)YOu have to make an insurance at that moment..Not later..
3)You have to test it there for dead notes ,any set-up ,binding or whatever problems.
4)You have to check the intonation..With a strobe tuner...
5)Gibson is one of the worst in QC ,so buy that thing with a luthier ,or someone who really knows LPs...

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

What a waste....

Yet again I'm thankful that I didn't own a single piece of gear worth more than $500 until I was almost 30.

And let me tell you....I made WAY more than the cost of that new Les Paul in all the years I had it gigging out.

Learn to do more with less ad you will be surprised at how much you can get done.

Others have said it....but it bears repeating. This is a phenomenal and sad waste of money and resources.

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

As much as I'd love to own a LP Custom I really think you should reconsider. You are 17 years old and are putting yourself in debt over a $6,000.00 guitar. Theres alot of nice things I wish I had but its not worth it to me to go into debt and create a financial burden for myself. As said there are cheaper alternatives and I'd encourage you to look into those. Taking out a loan for college is one thing but taking out a loan for a guitar is quite another. Think about it... Seriously. You would be making a HUGE mistake if you did this IMO.

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Dude save it for college. Get a nice dorm room. Meet lots of girls. Profit.

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Axl... I'm telling you this with your well-being in mind. The point here is NOT in how you're getting the cash. The point here is where that cash is going and where it's not going.

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Sorry Axl, but the only thoughts that have come to my mind is "waste" and "mistake". As others have said, you can get a more accurate replica for less money than the Sykes CS and have better resale value to boot.

What it comes down to is that nobody can convince you otherwise, so you'll just have to learn from your mistakes like everyone else. Good luck.

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Bro, I said it before, don't be in such a rush. Save the cash, add more to your funds you can Double your money. Then buy what you will.

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Are you aware that Sykes Les Paul, including Slash's favorite 1987 Tabacco Sunburst Les Paul, are both factory seconds????

Doesn't make sense to spend over $6,000 on a guitar that's a copy of a factory second unless you're a rich collector. Same reason, if you had $25,000 saved up you have better things to spend the money on than the EVH Frankenstrat Replica.

None of the legendary guitarists started out with expensive guitars. Not cheap guitars by any means, but not super expensive and overpriced like tha Sykes model.

For investment purposes, you're better off with a VOS '59 Les Paul. But if you're 17 and plan on playing it, not a good idea.

Save your money, as others have said, to start out with. Help yourself move out, get an apartment, down payment on a car, college, etc... of take the loan out for any of those purposes...

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

I was in the exact same situation a few months ago. I have always dreamed of having a gold top Les Paul. That's my thing, I love those guitars, and I will not rest until I own one.

But, on the other hand, it is not worth enough to me to go out of my way financially to get one, and they are only about 2 grand here. Instead, I got a studio Lp, and will wait when I am so financially secure, that getting that guitar will be effortless ( in a financial way). Not only will I enjoy it more, but I will also enjoy not having to pay banking fees.

I know I'm not much older than you, but trust me on this one. If you plan to go to college or university, once you get there, your views on money and spending 6 grands on a guitar will change very, very fast.

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

i thought about using my line of credit to buy a $5000 Pete Townshend Les Paul Deluxe.... but then i slapped myself and walked away.... then when i saw some sell for $3300 or so i thought about it again... slapped myself and walked away.... I'm glad i never did buy one even if i'm a huge fan of Pete's customized lp's....

i figure if i have to take out a loan like that for an axe i can't afford it in the first place anyways... but that is just me... if that Sykes CS LP is the axe you have to have and you are willing to pay it off over a few years then i guess you can do so.... i know myself i'd be nervous as hell to ding such an expensive axe... it may hold a good resale value.... but by the time you pay the bank interest will it be worth it?

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

ALRIGHT!

I have thought about your responses.

I will NOT get the John Sykes model.

1. A new Custom with the new pickups etc would run me less.

2. If I can get one, there is atleast a 3month shipping time on the John Sykes.

3. To gig with a 6500dollar guitar is a bit of a hasle to me.

4. I am beginning to love a Vintage Sunburst Classic or Ebony Standard 60 as much.

Guess you guys were right.

Hell for the price of the Sykes, I can get a 100watt 2203 JCM800 Reissue and a Standard 60 and that has been a dream combo of mine ever since I first heard Rainbow In The Dark.

I am sorry I didnt listen, and thanks alot for helping a stupid kid like me out.... Excuse my swearing, but how the heck could I think of giving that much for a guitar?

Plus this clip with Vivian was all I needed, you can look quite cool with a Standard.
