I Just receive this from EMG TECH SUPPORT

not if you plan to play anything clean ;) i loved the 81s hi-gain stuff, but its not really what i play. i traded mine out.

stick with passive stuff if you want versatility, IMO...
we play 95% all out hell bent metal, so clean is not a real big deal and i use the middle postion of the 3 way toggle when i DO play clean?
what i would like is a pup that makes even the DD seem tame?
:saeek:
is the 81 that sick?

Re: I Just receive this from EMG TECH SUPPORT

well, I've had the pleasure of speaking w/ and e-mailing Rick on a few occasions...he returns my calls in 20 minutes or less, and he has bent over backwards to help me in the past.. so I cant bash him ... maybe he's having a bad day ... maybe he just wasnt picking up what you were throwin down.

up until a couple yrs ago you could show up on their doorstep and have em troubleshoot your guitar on the spot for free ..I've heard tons of stories like this from local cats ... I'm not a big fan of the pups themselves .. but the tech-support has been good.

if you have the pups already .. why not install them and listen to how they sound .. and make up your own mind on whether they sound good or not?

Re: I Just receive this from EMG TECH SUPPORT

Keep in mind that we don't want to slam the competition on this forum, unless they're here to defend themselves; and, as far as I know, EMG isn't here to defend themselves.

I'll say this about EMG... they're a good company and they're run by good guys. I know a bunch of them from the owner (Rob Turner) on down. I've shared many a beer with them over the years and we've even worked through a few hiccups and came out respectful colleagues.

As for this situation, I have to say it's hard being a pickup tech. My guess is that answering e-mails is just one of Rick's many jobs. And everyone has their good days and bad days. I don't want to make excuses for him, but I don't want to hang him for his mistake.

If one of our techs wrote an e-mail with sarcasm like "You don't want much, do you?" we'd counsel him or her to cut it out in the future. But then again, I'm biased that we have the best techs in the biz -- thanks Scott, Alex, Billy & Kellie!

Anyway, just remember to not flame the competition.

Peace.

Re: I Just receive this from EMG TECH SUPPORT

Hails Evan,Thank´s for your reply on This one.

I Agree with you on the entire text you wrote here.
yes, let´s consider he´s having a Bad day, and etc... but as you said, there´s no justification for how he acted( past of the verb TO ACT, ahaha sorry for teh english.) like that line you Quotew from my email, and those "...snip..." etc. if he´s having a bad day... he could reply my email with the following : Hej man, i´m a little busy right here, wait andi´ll reply to your entire email Properly. OK? best regards..... .... ... "
Right? or something like that if he´s notfeeling good that exactly moment.
Ok, i´ll give him another Chance.
As you know, i´m not a bad guy. So, i want to give a second chance.that´s for sure.
OK
but i don´t have any subject/topic to talk with him after this email.
he answer some things, and where sarcastic with others....so... in my opinion
if i ask the SAME things to him,(the same ones that he replied with sarcasm). he probably will not even reply back . or will reply with bad humour, or something like that... OR, he will reply Properly.
but i don´t want to send nothing at this moment. eheheheheh
i´ll think about it better and see if i have any issues to contact emg support again
Hails and thank´s guys
you rule.
****ing hails SD COMPANY.

Re: I Just receive this from EMG TECH SUPPORT

As a tech myself who deals with customers via email...

Mr. Hunt just became my personal hero....

Yeah...I know it's rude and inconsiderate....but after politely putting up with so many things in a day do you know how much you're dying to just unload a smarmy comment or total off-the-cuff obnoxious remark?

It's thrilling just to see someone actually DO IT!

OK here we go, i have a self made duncan distortion that at this time i LOVE but will the 81 be even more of that type of thing which is very aggressive, tight, clear?

I'm in that delemma right now.

I'm trying to find a passive humbucker that'll be as tight, percussive, and clear sounding under high gain as an 81......

Re: I Just receive this from EMG TECH SUPPORT

FWIW, I've had a lot of good communication with Rick and he's always been very helpful regarding tech questions. He's often gone out of his way to help me with answers or even personally draw up custom diagrams.

Good luck, but don't hold your breath :)

I tweaked the knobs on the amp a bit, and tossed my metalzone in front (tweaked a bunch as well) and am back on the loving side of EMGs :laugh2:

Don't you just hate it when you look everywhere, only to find yourself no better off and right back where you started?

Re: I Just receive this from EMG TECH SUPPORT

if all you're looking for from a guitar is hell-bent wall-of-death metal, 81 bridge is probably a very good way to go :)

the problem is, the 81 falls short at low gain and clean sounds.. if you have a guitar *especially* for very hi-gain work, 81 bridge is cool. for nice cleans, either an 85, 60, 60a or 89 in the neck would be nice..

i used to have EMGs, but cutting down my guitar collection meant i needed more versatility. i now have a hotrail in one strat, and a lil '59 in the other. this covers many more bases :)

Re: I Just receive this from EMG TECH SUPPORT

Yah iknow man
Q:)
i´ll try install it
the main problem is : ****, i don´t trust anyone here to send my guitar to have installed the EMGS.
Q:(

Yeah, except I always end up really happy at the starting point... hopefully, one of these days I'll learn my lesson & quit going off in different directions. I guess it works out well enough, though, as its always fun "getting lost." :laugh2:
