Methinks then ya got a crappy JMP there or suttin wrong with it.. cos they are anything but 1/2 the balls in general????? :eek13: Seriously....a good JMP 2203/4 will keep up with any 800 2203/4 I've ever played. They roar! It's total early Maiden/JP tone!
:eek13:

Exactly. They JMP 2203/4 is the same circuit as the vertical input JCM 2203/04. The only difference is the cosmetics and the JMP/JCM designation.

Re: I think i need more cabs now....

Jeff: perhaps over the years something has gone wacky with mine. b/c to be honest i grew up playing this amp with my guild S60-D with sigle coils and it did sabbath and maiden damn well from what i remember. then i quit playing for a few years during college and it just sat. i came back to it and it just sounds thin and weak as can be now, no balls at all. real THIN!! it has new tubes in it but perhaps something else may be messed up. my brother and i never changed the tubes in it throughout the years. the first tubes it got were in 2004 or early 2005 and it was no help. since those tubes if it has 1hr of play time i'd be shocked. i even recently tried a hot mod in it...nice gain...still thin. changed the 12ax7s to sovtek 12AX7-LPS since GJ did a review a while back and they seemed to be what it needed. still no luck. i think i need a good amp tech. plus it still has 6550s in it. i have a set of new JJ EL34s for it but rather not try to bias it myself.

Get 'er in to a tech for a checkup. Something's not right. It shouldn't sound thin at all.

Send that thing off to Jeff Seal, bro. Or Voodoo or suttin. That thing shoudl friggin scream. It will not quite have the low end of a 100 watter..but it still should be plenty ballsy.

I'm no tech...I coudln't tell ya what is wrong with it...but something is. I don't care for 6550s personally..but they are not "thin" sounding by any means..they just have different mid frequencies de/emphasized.

No wonder you prefer the friggin rectumfrier over the Marshall...you can't hear for $hit!!!! :laugh2:

J/K Bro. Hope everything works out.
NICE that was nice !!!!!!!!! mike get well soon. hope everything works out :fingersx: . i love that marshall it looks so killer .

Re: I think i need more cabs now....

thanks, hopefully it will be no big deal!

anyway, i am hunting down a trustworthy local amp tech now to check out the JMP and i'll have him toss in the new JJ EL34s i have along with fixing whatever may be broken and causing the thin/lack of gain sound....we'll see how it goes.

Re: I think i need more cabs now....

Mike...Lookin good bro...and LOUD!

Get more cabs but go for a few nice 2x12's!

Foamy...there is a local shop here in town with a red small box (1968) 50 watter with the original, matching 8x10 and a later (1970) 4x12 in red as well...that amp smokes every Marshall I have ever played through!

Re: I think i need more cabs now....

thanks man! that's the plan...i think i'm going to have a custom 2x12 made with either good ol' vintage 30s in it or the vintage neodymium century celestions. still trying to decide on that.

Re: I think i need more cabs now....

Damn, if you had all those cranked I'd probably hear it over here. Cool new amp, the Rectifier I tried in a store was a pretty good amp...just not my tone, way too much gain.

Re: I think i need more cabs now....

**** yeah! That looks so badass!!

NiteMaresz, the top 1 1/2 rows of that Slayer setup are dummies.

Bottom line between Recto and PB: PB is better for tight, Meshuggah type chug riffs, while the Recto DOMINATES for anything technical.

Mike, you need at least 2 412's for EACH head!

Now, THIS, is a wall of doom:

Mike, I'd say you need something along the lines of that backline! :laugh2:

Um...yeah...I knew that.....the holes where the speakers should be gave that away :laugh2:

Re: I think i need more cabs now....

I'm giving Mike a hard time (and he knows I'm just bustin' his balls) about the MESAs, but I'm actually a big fan of MESA gear, including the Rectifier. The Modern Mode is not my fave, but with tweaking even I can get some tones I like out of it.

MESA's are an entirely diff beast and once you learn how to really use them you can get great sounds out of them..but they require a very different approach. And until you learn them..it's much easier to get horrid sounds of them unfortunately...they are very unforgiving amps...

Re: I think i need more cabs now....

oh yeah, i know there is no harm in what you're saying and i'm just bustin' your balls on the marshalls. they may not work for me but they do work for tons of others for sure!! a dual recto can be a tricky animal to tame. if you're crazy with the gain it gets sloppy and if you crank up the bass it can get a bit boomy with the wrong cab or guitar. it's all about moderation.
