If you could only have one guitar, what would you choose

Re: If you could only have one guitar, what would you choose

The mere fact that she refers to a musical instrument as a 'toy' is a bit disturbing. Maybe you can ask her why she feels the need to pass snide remarks on someone elses interests. Because the meaning behind the use of the word 'toys' is simply to try and pass your interest off as something less important or less relevant than all the other things that would otherwise occupy the room.

I don't mind the "toy" reference too much... but it would depend on how it was said. It can be used as an endearment, but it could also be used as a veiled insult.

Lol... my wife always playfully referred to my guitars as "the Other Women!"

Sorry to hear about your dilemma!

If I only had one guitar it would be my ESP M-II. Nothing else comes close ;)

Step up or you will be henpecked for the rest of your life. Women are for the most part emotional creatures; you can't appeal to them with reason when they have already made up their mind. Testosterone and dominance is the only key.

Testosterone and dominance are just as emotional of a response. That being said, you can appeal to reason with a woman, providing she is a reasonable woman. Of course, she should also be able to do the same with you.

Well, it works well enough for animals. And I suppose some humans
I prefer reason.

That's the point. Communication works best when you speak the same language.

Re: If you could only have one guitar, what would you choose

The obvious question: What will it be used for?

For my own use I think I would have gone for a H-S-S or possibly H-H superstrat set-up with a Floyd Rose or a similarly functional bridge, and chosen pickups that are versatile in themselves and also sound good split. That would cover many bases, but not acoustic or arch top jazz, naturally.

Re: If you could only have one guitar, what would you choose

Sell all your guitars and buy a genuine 1959 Les Paul.

That should eliminate the 'toys' factor and the 'too many' issues.

Re: If you could only have one guitar, what would you choose

For me, it would be a seven string of some kind.

I for the most part share an apartment with my girlfriend. As a guitar player and a music major, she understands that these instruments are a huge part of my life and accepts that they will be around. She never asks me to sell any, put any in storage, or take any back to my parents' house. The only thing she asks is that I keep them organized and in one area. Which is easy to do. I just put them into the corner of my apartment along with the rest of my gear. And if I ever buy a house, a music room is going to be a huge factor with what I buy.

Re: If you could only have one guitar, what would you choose

Talk to her. As someone recommend, if she just doesn't like them in all the corners, then tidy up a bit. At least try to come to some terms. That is the key.

Re: If you could only have one guitar, what would you choose

This is a sort of real life dilemma for me right now I have seven and they are spread out all over the house mostly in corners and my wife is really pushing me to reduce the inventory. It's not really as bad as I can only have one but she thinks that three is a reasonable number.
To answer my own question I am thinking the James Tyler Variax and see if it is possible to swap out the pickups.

Could something like this save your relationship ?

Re: If you could only have one guitar, what would you choose

I would choose 1 Gibson Les Paul, 1 Gibson SG, 1 Fender Stratocaster, 1 Fender Telecaster, 1 Gretsch 6120, and 1 Gibson J-200 Acoustic

Re: If you could only have one guitar, what would you choose

But quite frankly. If I had to choose...

A good HSS Strat
