If you could only have one guitar, what would you choose

Re: If you could only have one guitar, what would you choose

Having so many guitar options just ended up creating a mindfu¢k for me as a player. Too many choices, messing with my ears. Just give me Strats and I'm happy.

Re: If you could only have one guitar, what would you choose

It sounds like you need a guitar room, and maybe some wall hangers. If at all possible though take over a spare room and keep everything in there. Everyone who can should have a guitar room! With amps and guitars all set up and ready to go. I would hate having my guitars scattered throughout the house anyways. With a guitar room you have your own space with everything in easy reach.

There's something to be said about being able to just grab & play without having to mess around with unpacking cases or setting up gear. [emoji1303]

Re: If you could only have one guitar, what would you choose

My girl is a musician and an artist, so we have more musical equipment in here than furniture.
But, the problem with changing pickups in a Variax is that the new pickups won't match the volume of the models, so there will be a drastic change when you switch from modeled to real pickups. But buy some hangers for the wall, clean up the cases, or buy some nice display cases.

Re: If you could only have one guitar, what would you choose

My wife and I are "separated, but working on it" right now, but she never minded me having my guitars out... as long as they were displayed neatly. In fact, she thought they were kind of cool. Now the time I spent playing with them, that's another story...

Here's the current way the living room in my apartment is decorated:

This is my answer too
Hang them on the walls and call em art

Edit
I have mine in the living room
When watching the game , if I whoop
The acoustics resonate with me as if we all enjoyed the play.

I currently have 5 electric guitars spread around the house, and I've tried to limit myself to those. However I may be on the lookout for another single coil guitar, so another addition may be imminent!

I'd choose my Strat though, can get most tones I want and I've had it for nearly 20 years!

Re: If you could only have one guitar, what would you choose

I like the "hang em on the walls and call them art" idea a lot. Especially since I paint all my guitars.

I don't know your relationship and don't pretend to, so I'm going to leave the couples advice on the curb. My own wife tolerates multiple guitars, and though she doesn't see the sense of it herself, she doesn't judge or force me one way or another (other than financial concerns, which is justifiable.) But that's us, not you.

As for the ONE guitar....hmmmmmmm. I've always heard that a top end Strat is possibly the most versatile guitar out there. Perhaps an HSS strat to give it a few heavier tones as well. If you prefer a darker sound, then the Les Paul IS the quintessential rock guitar. (Even though I personally dislike them). Whichever way you go, if you can only have one, MAKE IT A GOOD ONE!!!! Spend LOTS of money on a 59 LP or huge dough on a 65 Strat. Sell all your guitars and her car to do it, if you have to, LOL. (JK on the sell her car thing---that's a bit too passive aggressive!)

Re: If you could only have one guitar, what would you choose

One of my Zhangbucker single coil equipped Teles. I can cover the types of rock (think Malcolm Young crunch) and blues that I play quite well with it!

Re: If you could only have one guitar, what would you choose

If I could only keep one it would be my my longtime #1, the very first PRS I ever bought back in '87. It can cover all the bases from hot & chunky to delicate & airy, and sort of has one foot in Gibson territory & the other in Fenderland. Its the best I've got for combining all around versatility with great playability. Perfect feel in my hands, the neck & body are supernaturally lively, and the vibrato bar is perfect with rock solid tuning stability. Plus after nearly thirty years together I know it better than just about any other.

I'd have an awfully hard time parting with couple favorite vintage classics which are a lot more valuable than the PRS. I'd really, really want to keep at least one axe with singlecoils and one with PAFs. But if it had to be one and one only, that would be my choice.

I have been campaigning for that for years but to no avail.

If only one included acoustic the it would be my Maton Messiah. If I could have an electric on top then a 335.

That's too bad, it's really the best thing for a musician and anyone living with a musician. It's just easier on everyone. I don't supposes blasting a half stack in the room next time she is trying to watch tv would help the campaign? :cool2: Anyways if I could only have one guitar it would probably be a les Paul with p90s, maybe a special.

Re: If you could only have one guitar, what would you choose

Clean said room where particular guitar resides, play her a love song, then blow her mind
whith some sweet lovin!

That guitar ain't going nowhere!

Proceed to next room and guitar...........!

Better have a good repertoire though, both in songs and moves.

I couldn't get by with just one, but if forced to, I'd go telecaster all the way.

Re: If you could only have one guitar, what would you choose

Earthquakes out here, so I keep mine in their cases, not hanging on the wall.

Re: If you could only have one guitar, what would you choose

Some sort of Les Paul like guitar, with some wiring tricks. Not sure how i would last without a nice acoustic.

This is why im glad im dating a girl who agrees that i would need a man cave :). I Think yall can probably work it out without purging, but idk your situation well enough.

Buy all your guitars with the same cosmetics, so she won't be able to tell.
She "Is that a new guitar?"
You "No honey, it's the same one ...see, black paint, gold hardware?"

Re: If you could only have one guitar, what would you choose

For me it would be my blue ibanez rgit20fe neck thru
Just one of the best feeling guitars I've played directly from purchase without needing to modify apart from wanting to swap out the EMGs

Re: If you could only have one guitar, what would you choose

I'd probably stick with my '05 20th Anniversary PRS McCarty, '59/Custom bridge and Whole Lotta Humbucker neck, both splittable. I could cover a lot of ground with that. Failing that, I'd have an original-run Gibson MIII standard! :) HSH, splits, 24 frets and a Floyd!
