Re: Incoming New Pickup Day (Fishman Fluence)

I am going over to Fishman on Tuesday afternoon to play around with these in their sound lab. They have a Goldtop loaded with the Fluences my buddy described as a beast. They have a Fender, Marshall and a EVH for test amps. I will get something written up a.s.a.p..

I can't wait to hear what you guys think of them. I've been thinking about getting a metal guitar and the Modern humbucker set sounds awesome for that. I haven't seen a company try to push the envelope though in... ever.

Re: Incoming New Pickup Day (Fishman Fluence)

Rocket science in a pickup. Awesome. And Frank Falbo involved? Doesn't sound like it can get much better.

I'd like reviews and clips! Hold the graphs, please!

I will ask the glaring SDUGF question tomorrow. Yes, I will find out if they are user friendly for mag swaps.

I chuckled.

But I don't think Blueman wants anything to do with active pickups. More for the rest of us.

Please update us once you take them out for a test drive.

First off it was pretty cool seeing this coming through the front lobby.

The pickup and Fishman itself are both amazing. They have a studio in there that is a guitar player's wet dream. There is also an acoustic room with a little stage and multiple amps when you walk in the front door.

I am going to save most of it for my column. What I can tell you is each pickup has two distinct great voices. Imagine going from a PAF to a hot late 70's vintage humbucker in the flip switch. Great harmonics and ultra fast response. The neck pickups are so full and clear you would swear there was some type of chorus on them. They chime and ring beautifully. I played both pickups in a Slash Les Paul that was set up perfectly.

Hit me with your questions and I will try to answer the to the best of my ability.

Re: Incoming New Pickup Day (Fishman Fluence)

Joe Gore over at Tonefiend.com and premier guitar did a video at musikmesse I think about those and he worked on the triple play midi system. So I have been interested in those for a long time. From what I have seen (random link) http://www.premierguitar.com/articles/20082-unwound-fishman-rethinks-the-electric-guitar-pickup Larry Fishman has a pretty great attitude and serious technical skills , goes a long way to making something actually good. The whole idea is just not a standard pickup at all. It looks like you were pretty impressed and they put your name on a sign , that is so nice ! I find a set for strat at $224 on a search that is not bad at all.
