Just gives it some character :D

Any cig burns on the tolex?
Refer to post #38. :laugh2:

No cigarette burns on the amp, they're all on my headstocks. And my arm. :smack:

Not ALL of them are PCB. Here's the inside of my 85' JCM 800.

Ya got a bigger picture there? I can't see this one very well.

But I'm really cheating. This is the mod Jeff Seal did for me.

I thought I smelled "mod" around there somewhere when you said the year was '85. :D

I was gonna call Bull$hit on him Erik, cos I knew Jeff's amp was modded by Jeff Seal..but figgered with the loop TGB has been thrown for in the past week re: marshall's it'd be fun to see him squirm some more :D

at low volumes it's still too thin for me.

You may be able to fix that by hanging a 100K resistor off the MV's wiper lug.

It has a very smooth volume and Gain pot, which I've heard were rarities at that time.

Does it have the bright cap on the gain pot? What value?

No clue man, how would I know? Moving the knob didn't seem to change the brightness of the amp.

Are you going to buy the damn thing, or not Luke?

I've got to have another set of ears listen to both amps besides my own....I'm leaning heavy on the Marshall, but to get it a certain blue guitar will have to find a new home.

You could either look at the gain pot inside the chassis, or compare the brightness of the gain at 1 with the brightness of the gain at 10. If they're the same brightness, it probably does not have that cap. If 1 is brighter, it has the cap. If the preamp gain comes on early in the sweep and then thickens up some as you go from, around 3 to 10, then it probably has a really big bright cap, like .0047uF.

.0047uf is actually pretty small, but still a bit bigger in value from the .001uf caps normally used or even the 220pf or 100pf.

Right. .0047uF is pretty small for a coupling cap and pretty big for a brite cap.

Ok so if the amp gets brighter through the sweep it does have this cap?
