Jb?

Re: Jb?

I found out the hard way... the jr's sound quite terrible in alder starts with 500K pots. The full size JB in the same guitar was a bit too heavy on the lower mids, but the Jr's seem to work well for me. I also found the amp has a lot to do with the results, cause the full size JB sounded pretty smoking come out of the resident jcm 800, but no so great out of my Mark IV.

I do classic metal.

As a blues/classic rock player who's tried several JB's in several kinds of guitars, they don't have the tones I'm looking for. I sold my JB's (before I was into magnet swapping).

I have a majority of PAF PU's. The hottest bridge PU's I use are in the 14K ohm range, like C5's & 498T's, and they don't have the infamous JB spike.

Re: Jb?

hey chris mang, you listenin'?? just go 'n' get yo' jb and some magnets, mang. it's a kewl pickup for stuff 'n' hair metal 'n' stuff

Re: Jb?

I think the most sickeningly 80s sounding pickup I have is a dimarzio double whammy. It's 110% mids and it's not really high output. I replaced that pickup with an invader, and then settled on a p-rails for my tone, in series it nails the exact tone I was looking for. Weird progression but for what I want I think you may be able to see the connections.

But hey the JB was intended for it and works for a lot of people.

Re: Jb?

if you're gonna be putting this into a HxH setup, i'd suggest the coil swap mod. like a coil split with more harmonic complexity, air, less harsh, etc etc... and can be had with one push pull

Re: Jb?

If your reissue is alder, jump on it. If it gets icepicky, put a 250K vol pot on it. My original Baretta screams with a JB and it's the only guitar I like it in. Ain't a fan but it does what it does, and it does it well. I hate to second the closed minded idiot who doesn't know who jef beck is, but a full shred is my first choice for metal. Especially if your guitar has enough bottom end.

Re: Jb?

Jeff Beck? Jazz/Blues?

Everyone should know by now that JB really stands for Jonas Brothers.....duh!

my reissue is solid maple like the original barettas from '84 and very early '85

Re: Jb?

I'm not into this kind of playing, just a matter of preference. I'm into shred/prog/80's not into blues, classic rock or such. So no, I'm not kidding, but there is nothing wrong in liking Jeff Beck, I just don't care personally for him.

PLEASE tell me you're kidding...............
