Johnny Hiland Joins the EBMM Family....

Re: Johnny Hiland Joins the EBMM Family....

Plays through Valve King amps, too. Gotta love a major force in the biz playing an amp that didn't cost $4000.

I like the look of the Hiland signature PRS better. Johnny Hiland is one helluva talent! I've got one of his instructional videos.

Re: Johnny Hiland Joins the EBMM Family....

I saw Johnny at NAMM a few years ago. At that time I think he was endorsing PRS and he was playing the PRS Single Cut every time I'd see him at NAMM that year.

Made me want to get a PRS Single Cut. :lmao:

Gotta say that seeing him with that EBMM didn't give me any GAS at all. Not a fan of that kind of busy looking three pickup configuration.

Of course I'm still pretty high on my newly acquired 2001 ES-335!

The whole endorsement thing has officially made my **** list.

This is the turning point.

Re: Johnny Hiland Joins the EBMM Family....

I laugh every time I see that pink PRS. Seems like a lot of artists have been doing that lately - when their contract is coming up, they have the company put out a real mess of a guitar as their "signature" model - then they jump ship to another company. Funny.

+1

There's no mystery...EBMM showed up at his door with a dump truck full of money and he acted accordingly.

Sorry, EBMM does not chase down or contact artists. The artists go to them. I have know Sterling Ball for a few years as well as a lot of the other EBMM folks. That's not their MO...

Re: Johnny Hiland Joins the EBMM Family....

Are these guys ever going to make guitars with >1-5/8" nut?

I think the petrucchi is, but that's it.

Oh there, I nitpick again :)

Re: Johnny Hiland Joins the EBMM Family....

See, signature models are cool when a player is endorsed because he is associated with that guitar. Jimmy Page with his Les Paul. Tony Iommi with the SG. Clapton, Beck and Hendrix with the Strat.

I can't take an signature model seriously when a player goes to signature model with no previous association to the model, or even the brand.

I didn't know that. He must have been unhappy with PRS for some reason, then.

yeah, this is pretty cool! Cool that he jumped too.. I kinda get tired of the PRS worship.. I dont find them that special.

From what I have read, he loves PRS guitars and Paul himself. The contract came up and they just couldn't reach an agreement. They parted ways at that time. I still see the JH Model PRS on their website though. Most of the time, when an artist jumps, they whack'em from the website. Does YJM/DiMarzio ring a bell.

I believe JH and PRS parted amicably. Will there be a JH model EBMM guitar? Remains to be seen. So far, he seems happy with the Silhouette they built for him.

Kind of a side note..... I played a Sterling (axis copy) the other day at GC.. Man that was a SWEETIE! Neck was chunkier than I normally like, but it felt good anyway and it sustained very nice for a floyd axe...

Heres the Guitar I miss seeing him with, in 2003-or-04? I was at Nashville NAMM - on the plane there I read a Guitar mag. featuring Johnny - off the plane and in Nashville I walk into Roberts Western World and theres Johnny with Don Kellys Band, and the Gold Sparkle Tele with 3 barden pups and a slide clip on the bout - and a host of pedals - I was in Tele-Hog-Heaven!'
I stayed perched by the door so I could watch his fingers - later on a that weekend he played in the Pink painted club?( forgot the name) with his own band - and playing a Reissue twin LOUD -- did I say LOUD?? I was attracted to the gig because I could hear it from the corner a half block away - I tell ya - I am a Johnny Hiland fan for life! - when he was on the Tele he was caring the Danny Gatton torch extreamly well as far as I was concerned !! I LOVED it !!! - at the Time I was struggling to carry a Torch too for RB... ( but I was not even in the same room as Johnny) -
Johnny's Tele represented the state of the art in Teles at the time - it was a awesome custom shop model with some one of a kind special appointments -

Then the Bomb dropped - PRS - Guitars and no Teles...? not sure what happened - but being such a fan of Johnny's I went with the flow on his decision ! - Now Its a Ernie Ball -
so were getting some "Music Man" ~"Leo Fender" back in this - I see - but to tell the truth many of us hard core Telecaster Fans (Tele forum members..etc..) - were Bummed Out when the Gold Sparkle Tele was never heard or seen again in his hands.

Re: Johnny Hiland Joins the EBMM Family....

I'm glad to see this. I've been thinking about getting a Sterling by MM Silo 20 due to it's lesser price. I frankly like the pu combination both sc and hb sounds.
