Re: Just saw this: Gibson cutting production/raising prices/modifying stuff
Meh, it doesn't even register for me.
The optimist, best case scenario is that they decided to scale back production for the sake of quality, forcing them to raise prices to compensate (ok, let's just accept it as a hypothetical). The result being Gibson turning more like a boutique top-end guitar manufacturer that only rockstars and blues layers can afford to get.
The cynic i.e. more realistic scenario IMHO is that they simply wanted to unload their unmoved stock while at the same time artificially inflating their product's value, making it more "sought after", whatever that means in this economy. Kinda like "you don't know what you have until you lose it" mentality except in a really twisted way.
In either case, it just doesn't register. Even before this there were at least a dozen manufacturers (probably more) that produce a much better product than any of the Epis and with better prices to boot plus I can def. name at least half a dozen or so top-end manufacturers whose production-line models are (arguably) superior than anything the Gobson CS has ever churned out (for half the price) and I only say "arguably" because there are still those who even now believe in that "Only a Gibson is good enough" motto and are willing to go through two dozen Gibsons in order to find "that one" to justify it.
Well, to those I say, happy hunting!
