Large or Ex-large Fretboard Side Dots

Does it glow for an hour as advertised?

About that long if you use the charger, they suggest. My bass player charges his with his cell phone light and gets about a half hour per charge. They came stock on his Charvel.

I have enough green left over to do another guitar if anyone would like me to send it to them, let me know.

you should do another guitar with it

My only other guitar with the same issue is my purple Ibanez Roadstar II from the same era. Small off-white/tanish dots on a rosewood board. I am keeping the blue for that guitar. I figured someone else could use the green.

I have the Luminlay side dots on my Cort w/ Fishman pup's (forget the model) . I've only played one gig with it though and that was our final gig as a band a few months ago. We got onstage at about 6 pm..so not particularly dark & I did'nt need them. It being our farewell/final gig I probably won't need them ever again either :p

So you are done playing live...forever?

I'm in if you still have, love to try it out

Ya, at least with my main doom metal band "Dying Embrace". We might continue to record stuff though. But after 30's years of hard ( & mostly local :laugh2:) gigging we are finally laying it to rest..

I still have my goregrind side-project..but that was always a studio project. We played live just twice..don't see that happening again either..

I was at a gig last Sunday though ..and a couple of kids I know who were there as well wanted me to do some guest spots with their bands...so who knows :p

My YT channel is the closest thing I'll ever probably have to that :p

Hours and hours of shredding self-indulgence of every imaginable variety :lmao:

Bruce hows those inlays working out

I just watched a Fluff video where he was pushing the sticker dots
He said his Luminlay dots were gone after one song

Maybe he was charging it wrong

I definitely get more than a song, but they are so large that I do not have to charge them to see them. I think I charged them a few times, and then the novelty wore off. but I love them and the size.

Yeah, they are great for showing off to friends, etc. But like you say, the novelty soon wears off.
I am now putting them on most of my custom builds because of the appeal/novelty. It's a positive selling point.

When I was in the studio, I was having trouble seeing the dots on the Roadstar without my glasses. My luthier just called, and he put the white/blue Luminlay dots on for me.Two orders of Luminlay dots were enough to do three of my guitars and one of Wattage's. That is a pretty good deal.

Here's an idea I hate on a guitar that's way too expensive:

That visibility though, that's gotta be pretty nice.

I don't like the execution there, but I think an inlay (that you can't feel) that big on the side is a great idea.

OK - where do I sign up?

Besides old eyes with scrip glasses these days, we play in sketchy lighting, and sunglasses at night are part of the brand...so looks like its time.

Luminlay you say?

Yes, it works well. You have to 'charge' it before a show with a special small LED flashlight for about a minute on each dot. Then it lasts a few hours. If you don't charge it, it looks like a regular white dot.
Also, make sure the person you get to install it has a drill press and is comfortable drilling into the side of a neck.

Side inlays have been the same (small dots) for 80 years. It is time to revolutionize them. Most bands perform with lighting that makes the dots hard to see.
