Marshall Astoria Custom...Head and cab.....

https://marshallamps.com/products/amplifiers/astoria-series/astoria-custom/

I think I found my thing here...we had one shipped to the store, a head and cab.....
This thing has all the things I like....
It is not for everybody, that I know.....but man what sweet sounds that you get out of this thing.

And it is alive, it feels like a living and breathing thing...
Just plugging in with a guitar is amazing....
Hope to get my hands on one before they shut it down...hehe that is how it goes with stuff I like ;)

Re: Marshall Astoria Custom...Head and cab.....

Everyone who has played them seems to love them, but around here the best Marshall you can find is the cheap one I already own.

Re: Marshall Astoria Custom...Head and cab.....

Well I like this one...
It has a life of its own....
Don't really like most modern Marshall amps much, nor most old either :D
And have a had a few...but nothing has done what this red head and cab does....

Re: Marshall Astoria Custom...Head and cab.....

I really like the look of the whole Astoria range, unfortunately they're out of my reach financially...

Re: Marshall Astoria Custom...Head and cab.....

ive loved the idea of them but havent been able to try one in person yet. this makes me want to try it even more!

Re: Marshall Astoria Custom...Head and cab.....

Right back to when they announced them I have been curious about them!
And I was not dissapointed by the Red one, dunno how the other two sounds....

They're beautiful amps. But I've owned and played a lot of Marshalls over the years and have never played one that I'd spend that kind of money on. I don't even spend that kind of money on the flavor-of-the-day boutique Marshall clones/variants that I've had (Friedman, Splawn, Bogner, Aiken, Ceriatone, etc). And though I'm jonesing to try Wizard and Metro amps... I wouldn't spend that kind of dough on those either!

The beauty of our sadly depressed buyer's market is that generally, you can let the new amp purchaser take the big hit and get used stuff in that range for a least $1K off of new price. When I see a used Astoria on the forums for the low-mid $2K range... then I'll become more interested.

Re: Marshall Astoria Custom...Head and cab.....

I've wanted to try them out for awhile. I just checked the LA Amp Show site, and realized I missed it this year....2 weeks ago...dammit!

I've never had a chance to play a Wizard, but my brother owned a Metro 2203 for a few years. Compared to original 2203s it's up there with the best I've played, though it didn't really offer anything beyond that.

That being said, I don't think they're quite special enough to justify the price tag.

Yeah, I think that with the Metro (and Germino) stuff... you're paying for the build quality as much as anything.
