Anybody here use a Boss Metal zone?

I bought one yesterday and i've been playing with it trying to get it set right ever since but have had no luck.

How do you guys set yours? or do you have any advice?

Re: Metal Zone users?

When i use one I set the Bass control to about 7, the treble to about 5, and then put both mid knobs full up.

Re: Metal Zone users?

I like using my Metal Zone in my bedroom but whenever I have tried it live or with a band its hard to get it to cut through. But its killer for getting real heavy crunch and low volume. I set mine like this I put the Level straight up pointing at the "v" in level. The highs are just over straight up pointing at the "e" in equalizer the lows I set pointing at the dot thats above the 200 The mids I vary from the 9 o'clock position to the 11 o'clock position depending on which guitar i'm using. The mid frequency is usually pointing at the "z" in equalizer but I will fiddle with it sometimes going from about 10 to 1 o'clock. The Dist is never more than half up usually its at about 11 O'clock or so.

So your using it as a high boost and a low cut?

I dunno... am I? LOL I just twist them knobs til it sounds right!

I find the MZ's to be very trebly at times... the high end if set high has that "gnashing of teeth" sound and I prefer a sound thats fat and smooth but still agressive so i back it off a little bit on the high end.

Re: Metal Zone users?

I got these settings from our forum bro chi3f, they sound awesome!

Low: full open
High: 12 o' clock
Middle: 1 o' clock
Mid Freq: 2 o' clock

Dist: 3 o' clock

The secret is to keep the mids and highs tamed while boosting the bass and distortion, then turn up the mids or highs untill the bite is just right.

This way I can get pretty fat, smooth and dark distortion while it crunches like a mf. :headbang: Good luck!

My personal settings look somewhat like two L's mirrored.. only in the EQ section though... try putting your amp's bass at 8, mid 5, treb 5-7, and then set the metal zone for these...

Low: 3 o'clock or more
High: 12 o'clock (or to taste  )
Mid Lev: 12 o'clock (to taste again... but keep it in that range)
Mid Freq: 9 o'clock or somewhere's around there

the distortion can be varied... anywhere you want it. I usually put mine around 1 or 2 o'clock. The bottom line you need time to experiment before you can get a great sound of the Metal Zone. Take your time.

Re: Metal Zone users?

Mod it. They are fantastic once you replace a coupe diodes and a few caps. Much louder, warmer, fuller. Fat, thick a$$.

Re: Metal Zone users?

I got to thinkin' John Spina (STRATDELUXER97) will probably mod a Metal Zone. He mods everything!!

I'm looking for a used Metal Zone if you know anyone selling one.

Re: Metal Zone users?

best thing you can do with a metal zone is sell it on ebay, that's what I did. At least it's better than throw it out. IMHO it's one of the worst sounding pedals ever made.

Having Filet Mignon every night gets old...sometimes you just want a hamburger. :laugh2:

BTW, I'd definitely take B2D's advice about Metal Zone settings. When I bought my Keeley MT-2 back from him, it was dialed in perfectly.

Re: Metal Zone users?

great pedal for a solid state amp... but don't bother using it with a tube amp. gets reall twangy and just all around bad sounding.

Re: Metal Zone users?

Ever since I got my tube amp I don't use it. I love the tone on my V series (just lacking a a really tight bottom end, but I have it stock) I hardly use MT-2 any more because It sounds bad on my amp, and makes my other channels sound bad when I have my guitar running through it.
