My G.A.S. - Hamer Special Korina Jr. *NEW PICS* & Review

Re: My G.A.S. - Hamer Special Korina Jr. *NEW PICS* & Review

How do you intonate it? Or do you not...?

Re: My G.A.S. - Hamer Special Korina Jr. *NEW PICS* & Review

It doesn't have the amount of intonation adjustability as the Wilkinson wrap-around, which has a moveable G-B string saddle. This is just one-piece. You can adjust it back and forth relative to the posts using two set screws.

Note from the pictures that the bridge is a little farther away from the post on the bass strings side. I was a bit skeptical at first. Jol talked me into the Pigtail / TonePros combo. And it's perfectly intonated.

Well then I can get over this fact and say it truthfully looks amazing.

Re: My G.A.S. - Hamer Special Korina Jr. *NEW PICS* & Review

worth the wait then! thats a great looking guitar, Evan. nice score.

Re: My G.A.S. - Hamer Special Korina Jr. *NEW PICS* & Review

Very, very nice. It is indeed a shame you waited this long to get a Hamer. But, at least you came away with exactly what you want. Now, how about some clips of that bad boy?

I expected to read nothing less than I did in your great review. I am posting a link to you review and photos on www.hamerfanclub.com messageboard if you dont mind.

Re: My G.A.S. - Hamer Special Korina Jr. *NEW PICS* & Review

very nice Hamer, Evan...

i recently bought a 93 Hamer Special P90 with Antiquity P-90s...awesome tone and awesome guitar for it's simplicity...
it was set up for slide with 11s and high action...can't believe i could play it like that....put 10s on it and started to lower the action by dropping the bridge ALL the way down so i could then slowly raise it until there was no buzz....found to my astonishment that there was NO buzz with it all the way down....it's perfect just like that...

BTMN sent me to the Hamer Fan Club Forum right after i got my Hamer...

and, yes, BTMN....i AM following you around the internet.... :smoker:

Re: My G.A.S. - Hamer Special Korina Jr. *NEW PICS* & Review

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I'm really happy with this guitar. The next true test will be when I use her at a club gig this weekend in Chicago.

Sweet Evan, what amp are you running it through, or are you going through this weekend. Also good luck with the gig.

At the show this weekend, it'll go through a Sundown head and into a Bag End cabinet.

My home living room amp is a silverface Princeton Reverb. My office amp is an early '50s tweed Valco. My current gigging amp is a Mesa Boogie 50 Caliber, though that amp may be replaced soon.

Thank Luke. If anyone's in the Chicago area, the gig is a Martyrs' this Sunday night the 26th (no cover).

This should be on the front page of the site.

VP Evan Skopp rocking out a Martyr's in Chicago this weekend. He was playing his Match made in Heaven guitar, a Hamer Special Korina Jr fitted with an Antiquity P90.

Re: My G.A.S. - Hamer Special Korina Jr. *NEW PICS* & Review

She handled great. It was an interesting gig. Filled with working pros (many with music degrees from Harvard) with great gear. But I felt totally confident with the Hamer. I was playing through an EL-34 loaded Sundown head into a 1x12 Bag End cabinet.

The clean tone was a little bright for me, but I warmed it up nicely with a new prototype "SFX-03" stomp box that I was beta testing. Something about that guitar makes me want to play Tele-style stuff. It's super bright and spanky. I still may want to go back in and put a thousand extra turns on the pickup. I'm not sure yet.

I have some local gigs this month and I'll play her through my Mesa Boogie (unless I can get my hands on a Celtic amp beforehand...).

Bottom line, it's a great guitar. I might not have had the most music abilities or best chops at that gig, but my rig was up there with the pros.

Re: My G.A.S. - Hamer Special Korina Jr. *NEW PICS* & Review

great report, evan ... i bet it was a blast .... something about showing up with an unconventional rig that tends to open up the ears of those in attendance ... i think when we see a strat guy with a fender style amp or an LP guy with a marshall .. or a pointy guitar guy with a massive rack we tend to have sonic stereotypes that we measure by .. when a guy shows up with a simple, yet elegant rig, it just focuses the attention on the 'organic', tasteful, 'right in the pocket' musical chops like yours are ... just enough flash for the audience to know that the guy is a player, but not so much as to ruin the balance on stage ...

i bet it'll sing through the boogie :D

any impressions on sfx-03 you care to share? any timetable yet?

cheers
