NAD _Laney IRF Dual-top 60W SS

Also love how dynamic this litttle amp is for stuff like tapping. I has the smooth compression I love that it gives it that liquid smoothness, but no mush.. and you still get that "bull charging in" impact when you climb/switch gears (Like @ 1:00 min in) w/o ever getting overly hard-edged or unmusical :bigthumb:
 
A friend of mine who owns a recording studio offered me a Celestion G12M 65 Creamback speaker that he installed in a 2x12 along w/ another of the same but then removed in favour of an "H" version cuz he found the 2M's a bit too dark & loose in that cab. He offered it to me @ half price.

No experience with those.

From the video's on YT it seems to be right up my street tone-wise w/ the looser bottom end & overall darker vibe. Plus it's really thick/fat sounding & vintage-y (though that pretty much describes the Redback as well, though it might be slightly more edgy) which again is my thing..

Now I don't reallly know what to do w/ it except maybe replace the Redback in my Vox 1x12 w/ it (though it sounds pretty awesome in there). The only advantage would be that the Creamback is 8 0hms vs. the Redback @ 4 ohms and my Orange & Laney SS amps both specify a "minimum 8 ohm" load. I mean 4 ohms works but I guess in the long run 8 ohms would be a safer bet for those amps..
 
More neoclassicality (Dark, Assym) :bigthumb:


From what I can tell the "Assym" setting gives the amp more grainy-ness/bite/texture (more Marshall-like) ...while the 'Clean" & "Sym" settings are progressively smoother..

At 60W this should be a legit giggable amp. I've used my 50W SS AMT Stonehead for countless gigs & it's always been fantastic. Too bad I'm not gigging anymore. I'm sure this would've been fantastic onstage :D

The only diff between this and my other SS amp's is this is Class D and those are AB....
 
I should probably try hooking it up direct to my interface with the built in IR's (1x12 & 4x12) and see what that sounds like too..

I could also load a Celestion Creamback 65M IR I bought from Celestion for my Mooer Ge300 modeler ages ago.. probably give me a pretty good idea of what the real thing will sound like should I decide to get it :bigthumb:
 
But first....Dark/Sym for smoother, nevertheless still shreddy tone :bigthumb:


After this I can move on to the clean/rhythm channel....before getting on to IR's and things :bigthumb:
 
And switching things up...AMT Stonehead for comparison (aka. my fave pure Solid State amp that I own) through the same cab/mic..


No effects or reverb.

The Laney is British voiced while the Stonehead's Lead channel's are Peavey 5150 based... 50W class AB vs. 60 W Class D.

While some folks (Clint, GuitarDoc etc.) need to pore over fatass theory books to come up w/ those & then study & practice the "shapes" for days. (and then when/if they finally get around to playing them , they still sound like arse, cuz slow sausage fingers and cauliflower ear)

..w/ me that sh*t just comes natural...no boxes/circle of fifths ..bugger all ..just sweetass sweeps all day long like it's nothing :bigthumb:

About as natural as indoor plumbing is to India.

It would beneficial to you to practice some scales. Got to learn to play by the rules before you can learn how to break them and get away with it.

The issues today are a result of poverty inequalty explotation and coruption & have nothing to do with what comes natural or does'nt. If you don't have food to eat ,you probably would'nt care where you shit either..

I use scales ..I use chromatic stuff, bends, tappng and pretty much anything I feel like using to make things sound musical to me.... and that's what makes me happy. Obviously speed is another thing which makes me happy and as far as I'm concerned guitar playing's all about making oneself happy. If it works for someone else it's a bonus. Rules were made by other human beings not gods. Nothing wrong with making your own (just like they did). No, you don't need to know someone elses's rules to break them. That's a dumb cliche. Yoou can just break them anyway ..I do it all the time.. :bigthumb:​
 
So..back to the amp & educational clips.. Tried out the two onboard IR's. The "1x12" option sounded especially nice. I'd probably use a third party IR instead of the onboard "4x12" though that was'nt bad either ..just a bit dark/dull w/ the Air Norton Neck pup...

Anyways..Air Norton w/ the Ix12 IR direct out into my interface.. :bigthumb:

 
4x12 sounds fine/usable too .. though I still prefer the 1x12 :bigthumb:


Nice thing about IR's is they sound great recorded at any volume....
 
I should try hooking up my Mooer Radar to the amp (switch off the onboard IR's) next...maybe find those Creamback 65M IR's I bought from Celestion.
 
Switched the voicing to Voicing Dark, Assym clipping, Onboard 1x12 IR..

Air Norton neck pup ( Alter Switch ON)

..Ballad. ( NO mongolian, hungarian etc. exotic scales....cuz why? lol.)

All you need is FEEL :bigthumb:

 
Not that i have anything against exotic scales..in fact I use them all day long if/when I'm in the mood. It just depends.

Won't lie, they can be fun , especially combined w/ squeelies & 7 finger tapping....7..not 8...cuz that's something I do (that other's don't..as in "no one else") ..to step up the speed quotient (Cuz speed.... esp. insane, mind-boggling speed = FUN) :bigthumb:

Well, surprise, surprise. I picked up the Celestion G1265M Creamback from my buddy's studio this morning. He sold it to me "as new" @ half price. Brought it home and tried to swap out the Celestion Redback in my Vox 1x12 for it, but I failed. The Vox has a removable back but the speaker is front loaded w/ T nuts and the mesh in front does'nt appear to be removable ...so I'm fucked :p

I'll just have to come up w/ some sort of plan B for the Creamback... :poed:
 
Into The Vox 1x12 (Celestion Redback) again, recorded with my AKG condenser. It does a better job than the SM57 at really low volumes.. Voicing : bright/Symmetrical clipping.
