New Gibson Studio you might like

Re: New Gibson Studio you might like

I'd buy a goldtop right away if it had neck binding. For me, on a mahogany neck, it's almost mandatory. It's funny how I can't stand binding on a maple neck though.

Anyways, interesting Gibson model. An affordable P90 equipped LP : maybe they are listening after all.

Re: New Gibson Studio you might like

OK so I went to get one today but no luck. They had a black one left, played great, sounded great but I want the GT.

Sounds like Gibby will be recovering from the flood for a few months and you won't see anymore for the forseeable future. The few in the marketplace shipped a day or two before the flood.

Re: New Gibson Studio you might like

I've never liked Gold Tops. Or gold hardware. In fact, I don't want gold anywhere near my guitar.

I thought that when I was your age too. But over time, gold starts to look pretty classy; half my guitars now have gold hardware.

Re: New Gibson Studio you might like

^^ I think BRAND NEW SHINEY gold looks lame but the tarnished, worn-out, flaking-off gold on my old Custom looks awesome.

I would love a nice goldtop i could beat the hell out of.

Hey I'm young and I like gold...nothing sexier than a Black Beauty LPC. Maybe an old beat up early/mid sixties Strat but I know you won't agree with me there haha!

Re: New Gibson Studio you might like

I've been drooling over the honeyburst, and goldtop, for a couple of days now. Does anyone have about two grand I can borrow? PLEASE?:crying:

Re: New Gibson Studio you might like

I wonder if I could drive over to Gibson and see if they're having a flood sale. hmmmmmmm.....

I mean I know I could drive there, but you know what i mean.

Re: New Gibson Studio you might like

Can't hurt to try. I heard there where a bunch of folks in hazmat suits there though

N00b question time - will minihumbuckers like the Antiquities (the ones with the ring, not the firebird model) fit right into the p90 rout? I've never had a Gibson, or a guitar w/ P90's, and although my dream guitar is a goldtop Les Paul w/ P90's or minihumbuckers, they're like three grand. Now this comes along and I'm drooling. So could I buy a set of antiquity minihumbuckers and fit them right in?

Re: New Gibson Studio you might like

credit where it's due...

WANT.

at that price (what, £500?) i'd definitely get one next year.

if they aren't carrying this line on, i'll be gobsmacked..

EDIT- balls. it's like £800 here.. typical.

Man, I'd love one... I wonder if the supplies will be that low for those... I'll keep an eye on the bay for sure ('cause it'll be a cold day in hell before we see one of these up here.)

In the old days, they were not the same size ( I used to have a Les Paul Deluxe). DMZ made a replacement Super D that fit the mini bucker slot, but they said that replacing P90s required slight mods. That was in the 80s.

Not sure if that actually answers your question...

Re: New Gibson Studio you might like

I'd love a GT too! P90...light weight....what can i sell? hehe, Watts got it BAD eh? I know the feeling...good luck bro.

Re: New Gibson Studio you might like

the goldtop is really killing me. want one so bad. i dont mind the lack of neck binding, and prefer the natural maple "binding" on the body. gahhh

Re: New Gibson Studio you might like

I actually had a 90's Gem Series LP with P-100's in dark purple/cream, and it's one guitar I wish I'd kept. I only paid $550 used for it, and sold it for $790 on Ebay. It was a good sounding guitar. These new guitars are basically the new Gem Series.

I can't think of anything other than my SG Diablo on layaway right now though. I'm trying to sell 2 collectible bikes, and my Schecter US Tele to fund it.

Re: New Gibson Studio you might like

Amazon has very good hi-res pictures of these guitars... man, they are really well-built! Looks like one-piece chunks of wood for both body and neck; I wonder where they would get such nice woods... so I'm thinking those are made with "mistery mahogany" or "mahogany-like" wood which BTW it doesn't mean BAD; maybe that's why they're chambered, to make'em lively with cheaper wood. If it works, I don't have anything against it, on the contrary; I'm all for it!

Those tops are REAL soft maple, so analizing the "recipe", I guess the acoustic properties should be in the best of orders.

Last, but not least, they REALLY look like '50s guitars, and even though I've never ever thought I'd say this, I really like the no-binding look, 'cause that's what a real musician workhorse guitar should look like. Spartan.

The Worn Gold Top and the Worn Honey Burst are my favorites. I'd get one of those in a heartbeat... and maybe I even will!

So much for the Gibson-basher I'm known to be, huh! :naughty:

So this "50's Style" - it's short and skinny frets, right? Not jumbos? Fretless wonder type setups?

Re: New Gibson Studio you might like

FWIIW, Wattage was right about the early '52 Gibson LP Model having an unbound fingerboard. According to our old friend, A. R. Duchossoir, the single ply binding first appeared in mid-52, as did the now-customary method of securing the bridge position pickup between the polepiece screws.

Re: New Gibson Studio you might like

You guys are all nuts, goldtop and all. The white satin finish is where it is at! :cool2:
