NGD Some will love it, some will hate it

Re: NGD Some will love it, some will hate it

Kick -ss! How would you compare the weight vs. your other Les Pauls?

Re: NGD Some will love it, some will hate it

that is simply amazing.

That really looks like a combination of my two dream guitars when I was younger. I remember a Gibson add for a white LPC, which looked so rich. And I always wanted a white SG with the small pick guard.

I bet the 498/490 set really works in that. I've always loved the set in SGs, but found them hard to dial in together in Les Pauls. The 490 in the neck has such a cool sound. I always call it "smoky", that's how it sounds to me. But with the lower mass of yours, I bet you'll get the perfect blend.

Congratulations, and great herd of Lesters.

Any idea if these are available with '60 neck profile? Sorry for all the questions. That beauty definitely checks the Rhoads' box!

I believe the original production runs of these (1987-1989) were made with the slim 60s neck profile. I think the later ones are fatter but don't know that for sure.

Yeah it is a 50s neck (feels like a "59ish" neck to me). A bit bigger but for the thickness and sustain you get out of it, it is worth it.

Is it SG neck -heavy? I'd hate for a beauty like that to take a nose dive. And hopefully they won't have headstock problems.

It is a bit neck heavy but you are not fighting it to keep it in a comfortable playing position. I would say it sits like an SG. It is a damn comfortable guitar to play. I put on the strap locks last night, this guitar is not taking a dive anywhere. For some reason it keeps reminding me of the old Gibson Sonex I gigged with in the 80's but a high end version of the guitar. The body shape, vibe and size is about the same.

The guitar came with a blank truss cover. Seeing it was my girlfriend who bought me the guitar, last night I put on a custom truss cover with her name.

Between your skinny white Les Paul, and my skinny black Cadillac...we are like Ebony and Ivory....except backwards in reverse.

and my Epiphone Dot studio has a truss cover that says "Francine"

We are so related somewhere along the line...

I did a setup tonight. I think the factory setup for the action on Gibsons is a bit high for my tastes. They also come with .10s. I slammed the action to the fretboard and set the guitar up with .09s. I also tweaked the pickup hight a bit. The guitar is a shreader now and the beast I knew it would be. It screams and rips. :headbang:

Re: NGD Some will love it, some will hate it

Just ordered a set of WLHs for the Les Paul. I love 490/498 sets but I want this guitar dialed in a bit more to my #1 for live swaps. Since I am pulling out the quick connect circuit board I am adding a push/pull phase on the bridge volume and a push/pull coil split on the neck pickup.

That’s the right decision.
