Ok I've come to grips with the fact that....

JeffB

Let it B
GAS is unending....

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE my "new" Destroyer...

I mean I *really* love this guitar!. It plays great. It sounds great. Its got mojo. I love the neck. I love the color. I love the top. Great hunk-o-wood. Its not perfect, but all the little things are forgotten everytime I plug in and fire it up.

But I want another Dean ML79 now after I just sold mine on ebay a few weeks back....WTF?????????? :smack:

I love my Vox Modellers..they do the 800/75w Celestions thing very well, and work just great for the condo/bedroom...

But I want another POD XTL, since I sold mine to ARKITKT (sp) :smack: I miss the greenback 25/2203 sound...and the vetta boost...and being able to use the modelled effects just like stompers... :sigh:

And lets not get into the high dollar stuff I want that I used to have...my Hamer Standard?

The R8?

Marshall half stacks.....Rivera..... blah blah blah

Whenever GAS subsides in one area..like say with guitars...it just pops up somewhere else....amps...pickups...pedals...then when that subsides...pop...there it comes again back in guitars...but now I want something off the wall (for me) like...IDK ..an ESP, or a Tele...or a Kramer Focus...

$hit never ends :yell:

:wanders off to buy lotto tickets:

Re: Ok I've come to grips with the fact that....

Yup, that stuff's chronic.

The less I spend time on the internet, the less I have GAS... on the weeks where I spend less time here, I focus on playing more...

I wonder what's wrong with me? :D

Re: Ok I've come to grips with the fact that....

I hear yah. I've got more stuff than I need (while a small collection compared to some) and made an agreement with myself. I told myself after I got my Bogner that I'd be done buying gear for a long time.

Well, I'm in the process of selling my two halfstacks to buy the bogner but I've also put my 4 wheeler up for sale to expedite the process. Both the amps and the quad are about worth the same (the quad a little more) so what ever goes first allows me to get the bogner.

Long story short, everything I have up for sale is going even after I get my bogner. I don't need more than one amp and I don't ride 4 wheelers anymore. I told myself nothing more but the problem is after the bogner is bought and paid for, I'll still have the perfect amount of money left for this....

Granted I'm selling half of everything I own to make all this happen :laugh2:

P.S. Anyone know if that gibson's finish will yellow? That'd be a quick way to cure my gas. That guitar is suppost to be white, not have the hue of a stick of butter! :chairfall

Re: Ok I've come to grips with the fact that....

That is one extremely nice guitar. They might paint it with white water based for the colour coat that are formulated not to yellow, I know that stuff seems to be popular these days for white colour coats.

I've found that nowadays I've got a good outlet for my GAS - whenever I start obsessing over a guitar, now that I've got the tools to do so, I can just go and build it. The wood usually is pretty damn cheap, so I can forget hardware, paint and pickups, and get all excited about building the guitar - then put it away for a later day (ie when I have money), and start building the next guitar I'm dreaming about! :D

Bro, you will always have GAS......LOL. Some times are worse than others. You need something to help curb it without spending any money. See, I was inflicted with a spending freeze after I got my Tele so that helped a lot. The amp was an exception, I needed to get it. I'll talk with your g/f. Maybe a cutoff will help curb the GAS....:laugh2: :laugh2:

Seriously, it's part of being in to this thing. There's always something that comes up that we want. I've got a couple items I want to let go but haven't yet. There's items that I want and probably won't have them for a while. Just making it work with what I have and the more I find that I can pull off what I want with what I have, the less the GAS stays around.............except for a Firebird. I still want one. :laugh2:

Hahahaha. I wish that would work. Though she's currently on the other side of the country from me because of school so I don't know that a cutoff would work. Please, just someone tell me that those Gibson CS Diamond Dots will look like they've got butter smeared on them after a few years. :laugh2:

But seriously, I convinced myself that I needed to diversify the types of guitars I have and that's where this came in. That and it sure is purrdy...

Though I'm sure the money could be used in better ways. Especially seeing as how I'm going to be moving in the name of school in much less than a year. Damn responsability!!!!

Re: Ok I've come to grips with the fact that....

How are those Dean 79's? I could go for a 79 V!

Re: Ok I've come to grips with the fact that....

Not counting a pair of pickups, I haven't made any gear purchases in 9 months. This is coming off a span of about a year where I picked up an acoustic, a bass, and 2 electrics. I'm going through serious withdrawals! I've tried to move a couple pieces with no luck, too. Seems like I've been stuck with what I've got. I'm really itching, too, but I really can't afford to buy what I want (or anything for that matter  ) I spec'ed out a few projects I could work on, too, and I'd pull the trigger on them in a heartbeat if I thought I could swing it.

I did, however, decide that the day after I walk for my MArch (ha, in about a year and a half) that I'll be driving 1.5 hours south of here to Willcutt Guitars with every intention of coming back to Cincinnati one guitar richer (and a few thousand dollars poorer). I also have every intention of someday pickup up an ESP George Lynch Serpent. They don't pop up very often, though.

Anyway, the gas never ends, and the longer you let it build up inside you the more dangerous it can be. I've taking my GC card with zero balance out of my wallet and dropped it into my safe only because carrying it makes impulse buys too easy. This way, if I go buying gear, it's got to be premeditated.

Best MIKs I've tried yet. And most of all I've been impressed with CONSISTENCY. Every one I've picked up resonated like mad, and was put together VERY well considering the cost. For $475-ish you can't beat em. Mahog body. Mahog neck. Decent stock pups. Put together very well. Just needs a pup swap really, and I've seen a couple with so-so nut work..but decent enough...not like some Epis get.

Re: Ok I've come to grips with the fact that....

I have been less and less interested in new stuff...I get excited for a few days...then I just play my old Kramer into my small El-84 amp or my Prototype 50 watts EL-34 amp or the big ole Hiwatt, I use my souped up delay Thomas made for me, my rectified slightly revoiced Plexi style od, and either my normal CM comp or the optical one Thomas also made for me, over either the straight big cab 4x12 with V-30's or my slanted 4x12 with G12H's.....and I take off knowing that this tops it for me...after more than 20 years of playing, I just know this is what I am and play!!
Three or four pedals, into one of the three amps......my Kramer or my strat or the Wolfgang....I need no more, I have a few modulation pedals that I also use, but mostly I am just playing with comp, drive and delay.

This is my major problem as well. The last guitar I acquired was basically a trade plus a couple hundred $$ out of my pocket. Thats how all my new gear acquisition are, or at least have been for the last few years. I've had the same two amps and the same number of guitars for the last 3 years now. Three of my four guitars have stayed the same in that number of time too. That (postition #3) guitar just seems to rotate out every year or so. Though I've found a keeper for that position now so I don't know what to do. Is it a diamond dot or money in the bank for grad school/living expenses? I know either way I'll be just fine monitarily, its just a question of do I buy a guitar that I know will be cool, or live more comfortably? Choices, choices....

i havent bought an electric guitar in almost 2 years. havent bought a guitar period in about a year and a half. and i got my 2nd bass a year ago. thats pretty meaningful, considering that before then i made a major gear purchase every 6 months for like 4 years

Re: Ok I've come to grips with the fact that....

i'm g.a.s.sing hard for another 80's PT...this time a Goldtop and a set of PhatCats!!!

it neeeeeeevvvvvveeeeer ENDS!!!

Re: Ok I've come to grips with the fact that....

I really really need another amp.

My classic 50 just doesn't do it for me in the cleans. I wish I had the $$$ for a fender deville.

Re: Ok I've come to grips with the fact that....

I've regretted selling almost every guitar I've sold. At this point, I try to add to the collection without liquidation.

Dang...That's pretty much what I've heard accross the board..."Best MIK (and value) out there". I must have one.

My wife will be cool with it if I go out and buy one....right???? :smack:

Hi I'm BTMN, and I'm a guitaraholic. I recently fell prey to the evils of Korina. AGAIN!

You would too!

Btw, you want a real neat ML look for a DOA 2004 ML.
