Ok Then, How About THIS Deal?

Re: Ok Then, How About THIS Deal?

BB,
Deal ... you mean like, deal is it better then 1350? well yes, its 1100. But you are looking for tone right, so what you've got ask yourself does this thing based on what you've read, tonewise is a value for you at 1100? I personally think that TT is not gonna make you happy. Warranty/liking to break the amp in, well that's fine, but what comes first to you that or warranty/liking to break the amp in? if its tone, than there are better option, its just how things are, they are simply there, plus if you really looking for tone than you have exremely high probability that you would want to mod your amp - warranty out of the window. If you dont wanna mod, guess what, you will be selling it again. I would go different route on this one, you have El Diablo, your main objective is to sculpt tone and home recording right? well what kind of an amp will give you a broader perspective on what tonal qualities what style of circuit/power tubes gives in tandem with El diablo, that is you have to have something different ot El Diablo to compare. If you are looking for a deal, well every now and then somebody dumps a 2203 JCM800 for same price, that would be a great deal as you would flip it here for a profit pretty quick.

Re: Ok Then, How About THIS Deal?

youre looking at another combo, what is it that you like about the diablo and what dont you like.

What do you want another amp to do for you that the diablo cant? If youre loking for a different tone try changing the tubes to 6L6 and get it rebiased. Try some different preamp tubes also.

As Mavashi said you can find a better amp for that price. The tt50 is alraight but its more of a crunch amp. Id look at the VH50 or VC50, or the GH50L which are better choices than the tt series. Otherwise look at a used AOR series, theyre cheap and easy to maintain and you shouldnt have to worry about breakdowns and warrenty.

Brit84,
Laney Metal Bro!
Love your avatar, very metal. I've got a Q for you I am gonna pm now.

Re: Ok Then, How About THIS Deal?

i've already got an el diablo. it's very versatile, but i want a different tone that is also very versatile.

the laney tt50 combo seems great on paper. it's got the el34 power section, spring reverb, slanted cab, quality construction, plenty of power, and as portable as my el diablo if not a little lighter.

as far as sound is concerned, it's undoubtedly a laney sound from what i've heard. i really didn't think it was that much different from the aor head or vc30 combo that i've heard. in fact, it seems to have a little more gain in fact. the cleans are excellent and crystal clear, and the crunch channel is very bluesy. i haven't heard the 3rd channel very much yet, but what i have heard sounds pretty decent.

overall, i'm starting to like the laneys quite a bit. the if there was a vc50 new, i'd get that. there's not, so the tt50 seems like the best option. they retail for $1799, and i've seen them go for as little as $1499 new. can't be that bad, but it's too late because i bought one. it will be here tomorrow. i think it's going to compliment my el diablo quite well.

Re: Ok Then, How About THIS Deal?

Do you even try amps out before you buy them?

I'm seriously not trying to be a dick or anything, so don't think that. But really, an amp is something you've sort of gotta be able to play through yourself before buying.
Hearing clips of someone else playing through an amp isn't really the same as playing it yourself, ya know? I mean its great to have a basic idea of what it's gonna sound like. But hearing it, isn't the same as getting a feel for how it interacts with you and your guitar.

Re: Ok Then, How About THIS Deal?

Well ... what clips and where did you listen to? One thing I gotta say that you wont like, those HH speakers are .... well, I will never have them and most laney blokes I talk to swap them out for celestions, jensens, emis, etc. I dont know if warranty allowes to swap speakers. Hopefull you will join the brotherhood, remeber to be a full member of the society L you have to have either AOR or Supergroup.
I gotta agree with Low, I bought my AOR after playing it over the dudes place full blast with different cabs and my Strat and Spina's TS, I will never buy the amp other ever again, except a Supergroup, that think I just want period

True, the VC 50 and 100 are now collectors items:headbang:. Im not saying the tt series is bad and in fact its the only high gain combo in the catalogue. I suggested the VC/VH simpmy because they have more gain are a little more versatile. the tt has a little less gain but should be good for what youre doing.
Do you want two el34 amps? or would you want 6L6 in somthing also?

Re: Ok Then, How About THIS Deal?

i didn't try out the tt50, but i did try out a vc30 and an aor head - thanks for dr.mavashi's suggestion.

i didn't get hte vc30 because i wanted a 40-50 watt amp. the tt50 has all the specs i wanted and is pretty versatile. with 3 channels, i don't think it will be hard dialing in a few great tones. i'm going to give it a chance. i already know that i like the mesa, so if i don't like this one, i'm just going to stick with mesa. i like el34 amps just as much as 6l6 or 5881 amps i guess. perhaps i tend to be partial to the el34 tones because i seem to like hte british sound quite a bit.

i don't really care any more. i won't lose any money, so i'm not worried about it. i think this is going to be a killer amp. by the way, I DO PLAN on changing the speakers. that's the only mod i plan to make besides changing the tubes later. hell, i don't care what people think man. as long as i'm getting good tone, i'll be satisfied.
