Re: One Amp, One Cab, One Guitar

I have a couple of variations on this.

My current all purpose rig. The guitar changes on this but it's mostly my Ibanez RG Premium with Catswhisker Alnico 8 Bridge Pickup, My custom amp (No longer a sloclone) And a custom Roadkill 2x12 with a Legend V128 & a Legend GB128

Then my Metal Rig. ESP Explorer copy (note bridge pickup has been removed as i'm about to put the JH Bridge in), MKIIC+ Clone and an Ironheart Cab with a Celestion V30

If I had a drink in my hand I would have done a spit take when I saw that Blues JR converted into a head. I adore my Blues Jr II, I could totally use that alone with any good strat. It has enough crunch for me to go old school and rely on dynamics and the ol volume knob on a good strat or a Gibson semi hollow. And it's got built in verb, which makes it an easier choice. Similar to an AC30 for me.

Guitar->pedals->amp

Re: One Amp, One Cab, One Guitar

Total vintage Japanese.

Guitar is a 1982 Tokai SilverStar Strat, fitted with BKP Apache pickups and Callaham bridge. (the guitar has a 'CBS' headstock with the '7okai' logo that closely resembles the Fender logo).

Amp is a 1970's Guyatone 'Reverb Jazz' (40 watts) which seemed to be based quite closely on a Fender Pro Reverb, but it stayed clean most of the way up, more like a half-powered Twin reverb. I rebuilt it to the Pro Reverb specs, which involved fitting a new power transformer and a tube rectifier. I replaced all the components with high-quality versions. I also re-covered the cabinet and replaced the worn grille cloth. I'm in the process of converting the unused 'normal' channel into a tube effects loop.

This pair would not disappoint even the most ardent Fender fan.

On my NAD I was told this thing would catch fire/be dead in a week...but I'm happy to announce (now a couple years later) she's still alive & breathing fire :lmao:

Not a moments trouble..been on for days... gigged with ..hauled over to the studio/jam space/practice..and never delivered anything but huge classy tones all day...still sounds incredible...still running the same tubes.. :smokin:

Re: One Amp, One Cab, One Guitar

Sorry for being tardy to the party but we FINALLY had a sunny day here (not really a day, more like 1hr of sun in the last month or so, and it was today... picture time).
Pics aren't perfect but at least I managed to take a few.
You'll notice it's the same cab as I only own one. However, I mixed it with my three favorite heads and my three les pauls and I'll be the first to say that all of them could use a polish at this point...

I like that wine red into the recto. Screw classic rock :)

Re: One Amp, One Cab, One Guitar

Screw classic rock indeed, that rig screws YOU! (Although it does classic rock very well... ;))

Re: One Amp, One Cab, One Guitar

My only gig pic, but either guitar will do into my Cornford MK50

Re: One Amp, One Cab, One Guitar

can't post it since i dont have my dream amp yet.... anyway id go dual recto with an orange 2x12 cab (closed back v30s) and my bc rich mockingbird st with pegasus and sentient... i really would need some pedals to get my ideal tone however....

Re: One Amp, One Cab, One Guitar

This is a custom built amp loosely based on a JTM45/bluesbreaker/tweed bassman. Its 4 inputs are jumpered into one and blended via the two volumes and extremely sensitive preamp tubes. There is also a master volume control that sends the signal out via a pair of EL34s which is designed to put out roughly 25 watts before power tube clipping. This fairly modest output for a pair of el34's is designed so that the master volume gives a smooth sweep all the way between 1 and 10. Solid state rectification gives this amp some serious punch and beef. For the aussie forumites out there, i can't recommend Eric's Guitars and PA's in petersham enough. Eric makes the cabs and his buddy darryl hoy wires the amps. He's a cool guy and you can try all of his different amps at full volume through just about any speaker combination you can think of. If you are looking to go boutique, at least give him a call or pay him a visit. Everything is meticulously hand built and surprisingly, not expensive at all.
The cab is ply and the speakers are a private jack at the top (i put it up there because treble waves are pretty directional so it is close to my ears) and a texas heat at the bottom.
The axe is a 335 dot reissue with the WLH set and a bigsby.
This is my main blues gigging rig atm (ive only had it for a couple of months). I dont need pedals with this setup because the amps input is so sensetive to the guitar volume. Its a lot of fun and very rewarding to play through.

i will admit that a couple of weeks ago, i had the opportunity of running this in parallel with my old twin reverb at a gig. I know dual amp setups are definitely not part of this thread, but, whoa man! all that clarity, punch and dynamic response from the guitar/cable/amp setup with the valvetone being followed in time and space by the big old spacious long tank reverb coming from the twin....well...it was a pretty much my idea of guitar heaven.

Re: One Amp, One Cab, One Guitar

ok i cant help it. here are a couple of others:
the clean machine.
1969 twin reverb rebuilt by our beloved Crusty Philtrum to share reverb and vibrato on both channels. It is truly a thing of beauty. People comment on how luscious it sounds wherever i go. Its had a hard life so a previous owner ripped off the remnants of the tolex and then stained/estapoled the bare wood.
The strat ive had since i bought it new in 1991. The pickups are ssl1/ssl1/ssl5.
To be fair, when im gigging with the twin i always bring one kind of pedal or another unless its a jazz gig. Either a nice overdrive or a fuzzface. I dont use the strat out live much, but the twin gets used for various things.
