Re: One Amp, One Cab, One Guitar
This is a custom built amp loosely based on a JTM45/bluesbreaker/tweed bassman. Its 4 inputs are jumpered into one and blended via the two volumes and extremely sensitive preamp tubes. There is also a master volume control that sends the signal out via a pair of EL34s which is designed to put out roughly 25 watts before power tube clipping. This fairly modest output for a pair of el34's is designed so that the master volume gives a smooth sweep all the way between 1 and 10. Solid state rectification gives this amp some serious punch and beef. For the aussie forumites out there, i can't recommend Eric's Guitars and PA's in petersham enough. Eric makes the cabs and his buddy darryl hoy wires the amps. He's a cool guy and you can try all of his different amps at full volume through just about any speaker combination you can think of. If you are looking to go boutique, at least give him a call or pay him a visit. Everything is meticulously hand built and surprisingly, not expensive at all.
The cab is ply and the speakers are a private jack at the top (i put it up there because treble waves are pretty directional so it is close to my ears) and a texas heat at the bottom.
The axe is a 335 dot reissue with the WLH set and a bigsby.
This is my main blues gigging rig atm (ive only had it for a couple of months). I dont need pedals with this setup because the amps input is so sensetive to the guitar volume. Its a lot of fun and very rewarding to play through.
i will admit that a couple of weeks ago, i had the opportunity of running this in parallel with my old twin reverb at a gig. I know dual amp setups are definitely not part of this thread, but, whoa man! all that clarity, punch and dynamic response from the guitar/cable/amp setup with the valvetone being followed in time and space by the big old spacious long tank reverb coming from the twin....well...it was a pretty much my idea of guitar heaven.
