Re: P90 size humbucker.
Mr. Aceman, dude, I was asking about a "P90 sized hummer". I know Seymour, DiMarzio, and some others make them.
Looking for a little first hand knowledge.
Well, I've here a few P90 sized DiMarzio's (Tone Zone, Super Dist, DLX) and they sound reasonably close to their full sized counterparts IME.
I've also a P90 sized Bill Lawrence but it doesn't count since it hasn't a PAFish tone - and because P90 sized BL have in fact the same coils than the "humbucker mount" version.
Among those that I've mentioned, the DiMarzio DLX might fulfil your needs if you're not too picky: despite of an high DCR, it has almost the same inductance than an average PAF clone and sounds close, albeit it's not exactly a "lively" pickup IMHO.
+1 about TV Jones, various mini-humbuckers and/or GFS P90 sized models: @ different prices, all of those lines include models able to sound
reasonably close to an average PAF clone- hey, after all, even an Epiphone bridge minihumbucker reads 4,5H of inductance, exactly like a run of the mill PAF copy, and sounds accordingly, with just a
slightly brighter tone due to the narrower magnetic aperture.
Don't discard the Guild "Starfire" mini-HB made in Asia for Fender: although the bridge version is an oddball, the NECK model reads the same than a low wound PAF clone (7,5k and 4,3H) and has the same kind of round tone than average ones (partly because of a "bad" cover causing eddy currents). A Starfire mini-HB could be mounted in a P90 cavity after a few
minor mods.
For really good models with enough clarity and aliveness, P90 sized HB's can be built by various boutique winders - those of the Duncan Custom Shop AND a few others. Example:

Good luck in your quest!
