Post your Stratocasters

Re: Post your Stratocasters

That's a really cool guitar. I really like the fretboard binding, you don't see that very often on a Strat.
Thanks. I had casted this neck in exile since a tech once told me that I trashed it. Turns out he was mistaken. My luthier confirmed the neck was playable. I decided to slap it onto this project. You can sorta see tru oil on it from practice runs I use to do on it. The headstock has tons of dings from just being tossed around and frankly neglected over the years. I'm pretty happy that it found new life, I bought this when I was a private in the Army.

It looks cool, but considering how babied and clean it is, that finish ruboff feels like a hell of a QC flop for such an expensive axe... or is weak oldschool paint an advertised feature?
Fender AVRIs (American Vintage Reissue), at least the older ones, have a thin skin nitro finish over a poly coat. It dries and wears down fast. I got this body off an eBay dealer, but it's apparent that this guitar was well played and loved. The body is one of the lighter alder bodies I've had and is pretty resonant.

Stock MIM Classic Series, only mod is moving the 2nd tone to bridge+middle. Will probably get pickups for it at some point but the stock pickups are actually decent. Love the color, the 7.25" V neck, and I had always wanted one this color with 50's features since I was a kid, finally got it when I was 30 lol. Got a great deal on it, it was a "blem" and she has a little dent and you'll never find it if I don't tell you where it is, and you have to inspect it under a lamp to really see the slight dimple. SCORE! ^_^
The Squier in the first pic is my trusty Bullet, she stays in 5 string open G as I don't have a tele right now, but the ceramic bridge pickup has a thicker sound that I use to fake a keith richards vibe.

I used to think "I don't wanna be one of those 'strat guys' that plays the same boring guitar that gets copied to death" but after owning like 8 strats I just can't get over how well designed they are and how much music you can cover with a stock strat. The body contours and balance feel right for me and now I can't seem to get along as well with Les Pauls -_-'

Love that color!

Re: Post your Stratocasters

Here’s mine
2004 MIM Fat Strat.
Custom Warmoth pickguard. I have it wired up as a master volume/tone because the standard volume knob placement doesn’t work for me.
I also replaced the pickups with a set of Fokin Hot Breeze pickups. These pickups are amazing

Re: Post your Stratocasters

Here are mine.
Fronkensteen, a "Guitarman" Floydcaster, made for me at Stuyvesant Music back in '79. Trusty old warbird with more than 2000 sets on it.

John Suhr built this one for me in '80 at Rudy's on 48th St: V-neck with ebony board and early EMG set. Tangerine finish has darkened a lot over the years.

1980 Tokai- tiny neck makes me feel like my hands are as big as Jimi's

Lady Blue, my absolute favorite Strat ever, super lively and incredibly sweet sounding.
Refinished and refretted sometime in the 70s before I bought her, but she was born in October '63.

Little Wing, a 2001 partscaster with Fralin Woodstock 69s and a Zhangbucker Paul Bunyan at the bridge

'011 Roadworn Player with Fralin Vintage Hots

This Eko is basically a Strat, too. Great cheap guitar. Still don't know if they're generally good or if I just lucked out and got a really good one.

not sure if this counts: Tele shaped but functionally it's an HSS Strat

'95 Showmaster - set neck guitar. Other than that it's more or less an HH Strat. 59N & PGplus pickups.

And if the Showmaster quailifies, then this Albert Lee really should also. Another tiny neck. Still, the wax/gun oil neck finish feels incredible.
The guitar plays and sounds great.

Two projects in progress too

Love that wiring scheme. I haven't had my strat strung up in a while, so I put new strings on it last night and set it up. I've been playing LP style guitars or guitars with similar layouts so long that the volume knob really gets in my way when playing the strat. I know I'll adjust, but your solution might just be the ticket.

Nice.

Re: Post your Stratocasters

Fender also has a dark candyapple red called Candy Cola that I really dig...

I really love that candy cola color. After a CAR 66' strat, I think I'd go with that color next. Classy.

Also @electricsynergy, I really love that Lady Blue strat. Very beautiful.

The switching is:
1) humbucker (bridge)
2) automatic coil split humbucker
3)middle
4) neck/middle
5) neck

Same with me....I’ve been a LP guy well, seems like forever.
And I’ve never liked the volume knob placement on a Strat, but I do want those Strat tones....
I went to Warmoth and custom made a guard. Iirc, it was somewhere around $40+shipping.

Re: Post your Stratocasters

Grabbed a Tele Body recently so I am swapping some necks onto other bodies and currently redoing an ‘87 Kramer Pacer Custom I Body with a Warmoth Pau Ferro Neck for a “What a Fender HM should have been” Super Strat and building an ‘86 Kramer Classic II Super Tele as a result. Other two are an ‘83 Kramer Pacer Imperial Nd an ‘87 USACG/Kramer Pacer Custom I.

My collection. An SRV, Custom Shop Robert Cray model, and a couple partscasters

Re: Post your Stratocasters

Here are a couple of Strat projects that I've painted up. Still working on them and hopefully they'll be finished.

The YJM was blue at one point, but it’s probably a nitro finish and aged into a sort of mint. The neck is sticky as hell too. Forgive the rags on the floor I spilt some solvents.

There's nothing cooler than a SSS Strat that becomes an HSS once you get close to it, especially with a black pickguard.

Re: Post your Stratocasters

Since non-Fenders seem to count, I currently have 2 1/2 Strats; all mid-80s Charvel partscasters.

kOnvihB.jpg

The first is an '86 Model 4 body with an '87 Model 1A neck. Modified with a Custom Custom, Cool Rails, & Kahler 5521 locking nut. The full life story is available here.

bjEmfEC.jpg

The second is the '87 Model 1A body with an '87 Model 2 neck. The pickups are an SSL-2 / SSL-2 / SSL-6T set wired master volume / 50s style master tone with a Fralin blend pot, and the neck has been modified with Sperzel locking tuners. The tone is a push-pull that activates the tap on the SSL-6; full output when down and tapped when up.

VmuR22f.jpg

The half is the '87 Model 2 body and '86 Model 4 neck. The ongoing build thread is here, and I recently got the H-S-H routed body back from my tech. Next steps are to re-sand the edge radius and spray a black base coat before sending it off to Swampy to have it swirled. This one is going to get another 5521 locking nut and Gotoh Floyd; pickups will be a Parallel Axis set with the PATB-2 Distortion bridge.
