Preferred Guitar Strap Material

Re: Preferred Guitar Strap Material

Suede leather. It has enough texture that it doesn't slide, but I can move it around when I need to. Specifically I love Franklin Straps because I like the way they extend.

Re: Preferred Guitar Strap Material

Never mind the texture. Concentrate on the tone!

Go directly to The Vault. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200.

I know the strap is as important to the tone of a guitar as knobs on a pot, but im pretty superficial when it comes to my straps.

Re: Preferred Guitar Strap Material

Since I rarely play standing due to health issues, I am very content with the generic nylon ones. The only reason I even use them sitting is in case I have one of my seizures and therefore won't drop it out of my lap. I would however still like too have a nice one, just have not found one that catches my eye. Though I did see a wooden one a while back ( not sure who made it, or what wood was used ) it was very classy looking.

Re: Preferred Guitar Strap Material

I like leather with the rougher unpolished side towards me. I've got a three inch one for my Charvel So Cal and a five inch strap for my 11 lb bass guitar . . . both work great and are very comfortable.

Re: Preferred Guitar Strap Material

I've tried leather and suede and poly, but always come back to plain ol' nylon, though preferably the planet waves locking ones thus eliminating the need to buy strap locks for all of my guitars&basses

Cotton works well for me

Re: Preferred Guitar Strap Material

I keep a few cheap nylon straps for guitars that aren't my primary players, all of which have leather straps.

Re: Preferred Guitar Strap Material

Nylon seat belt style. For the same reason you mentioned, it slides over clothing so you can shift the guitars position without it grabbing and bunching up your shirt.

Re: Preferred Guitar Strap Material

Only leather for me. I have a strap for each guitar, so with 55 guitars--I have a fortune in straps alone. I have mostly Levy's and Franklin, but I also have them from Martin, Washburn, Music Man, Double Treble, Moody's, et.al.

And NEVER leave any kind of strap in long-term contact with the guitar's finish. I've seen guitars that have just had the finish destroyed by contact with a strap.
