Re: SDUGF Pickup - What's Next?
like j said, the bridge is the weak spot on a strat. a tapped strat bridge pup that sounds like a strat (maybe with a little tele) tapped and p90 full would be a cool pup. you could use it in the neck or middle as well and it would probably sound great clean tapped, and great dirty full. maybe 42 up to the tap then 43 for the rest?
thats a pup that i think would be sweet, a little different but very cool
That's a cool idea too...
I'm no pickup winder... been though a bunch over the years... enough to know that a big, phat, P90-ish thing with big magnets won't work in the neck of a strat without replacing all the other pickups as well.
The sheer volume & string pull from the neck would eclipse the bridge by a mile.
Strats, any strat... they already have that problem.
Looking for a solution... not another problem.
I'd love to have something in the bridge that can grind a Super or kick a Marshall in the sack... and won't be totally out of balance with "stock" middle & neck pickups.
Unlike any H/S/S guitar... where the bridge pickup is so much louder it's unusable unless you get rails or soemthing... and then you don't really have single coils.
I'll agree that most noiseless pickups/stacks/etc. seem to lose some to a lot of the snark & vibe of great single coils.
I haven't tried the Kinmans...
I dig the Vintage Rails for what they are...
Wind me up an SP90 in a Strat size... and a Tele size.
That's what it "should" be...
I think a whole lot of 'ya would dig that... and probably even WANT that...
Even if you haven't realized it, yet.
