Seymour Duncan wants $255 for shipping to replace two "Dead on Arrival" Antiquity II Surfer Strat Pickups.

Maybe someone searched the backpack, and didn't like the way a few coils of thin wire with bigger wires sticking out of it looked- maybe they made sure it wasn't going to work before it went on a plane...
That's one nefarious TSA employee :ROFLMAO:

I've been on a bunch of flights to/from the USA, and I can't even imagine trying to explain what a guitar pickups is when getting my carry-on luggage inspected.

Even so, I believe they would first call the owner of the pack and ask, rather than going all Jack Bauer with that.

You have to scrape the enamel off the wire to test the ohms

Your meter wont read through the enamel to the wire

I feel like Noone is listening

Your tech should know this
Thank you! I'll mention my luthier in case. Probably he knows but I'll mention it either.

Thank you for your valuable insights. Firstly, my luthier also mentioned that while he might consider the possibility if only one was faulty, the probability of both being defective is nearly zero. Secondly, when my luthier saw that the pickups weren't working, he asked me if they had been dropped, hit against a hard surface, or brought in a suitcase on a plane (as you know, airport staff often toss suitcases around without much care). Following this, I called my friend, and he told me that since they were entrusted items, he carried them in his backpack and even kept the bag on his lap during the flight. Lastly, my friend isn't involved in music anyway; he bought them for me while he was in the USA, so I don't think he would have been able to test them.

There's a Turkish proverb: Things that cannot be explained have their humor. I liked your sense of humor and I laughed a lot at your comment :ROFLMAO:

Hope its okay to post this since its another company but one of the best pickup repairers. Diagnosing and repairing a dead 1956 Strat middle pickup with same symptoms.

He explains a ton of nuances its like a mini class. Its interesting that he fixes it but the problem isn't what he thinks it will be going in.

Lindy Fralin Repairs a 1956 Stratocaster !

Man - this is a sad story...

It sounds like the pickups are salvageable, but need to go to someone who really knows how to address the issue, and on this specific vintage build.

I hate to say it, but the Duncan angle is a dead end. So many things could happen between California and Turkey...

I’m not sure that you’re Turkish or translate your laungage into mine.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I'd guess the pickups were somehow damaged "after" being tested/shipped by Seymour Duncan. The chances of SD shipping you two dead Antiquity's in one go (or at all) are pretty slim. I live in India and have bought a lot of pickups from the US over the years, Duncan's, Dimarzio's, Lace's, Emg's & others...but usually from authorized dealers on ebay & Reverb. I've never had a pickup come in that was DOA, despite long/hard transits/flights/customs delays etc. Shipping to my country was usually not more than $60 for a pair of humbucker's but I have'nt bought anything internationally recently (last 10 years or so) because I've since found a couple of reliable & sensibly-priced dealers locally and that's quicker/easier/better for me.

Hello, actually authorizied seymour duncan shop is available in Turkey which is Zuhal Muzik, but it does not bring all version of pickups. Few and cheaper model is available, pickup option is limited. Since absence of pickups in Turkey, my friend where's been in USA bought these pickups for me; I asked Zuhal Muzik but they say "Since you bought these on Original Seymour Duncan Website instead of our shop, we weren't able to help you." In terms of shipping cost, If I send these from here to USA it probably costs $50-60 (I didn't ask shipping firms, just predict and asked someone who into this), but return cost is too too much. Thank you for your comment.

So — did this ever get resolved?

I agree with others — there’s no way two pickups for the same customer could be DOA.
Well, It'll be get resolved soon. I got phone call, he introduced himself to me, Mr. Faruk (He didn't say his lastname, He works at Zuhal Muzik as far as I remember). Seymour Duncan was very saddened by this situation and decided to send me the same 2 pickups through Mr. Faruk. I was very surprised and happy; I didn't expect them to do this. I would like to thank the Seymour Duncan and Mr. Faruk very much. I will support my review with a photo when the pickups arrive.
