Re: Straplocks: Dunlop VS. Schaller

I use Dunlop, I have a problem with Schaller. Now that I have Dunlop locks on most of my straps and never had a problem with the locks it would make no sense to switch.

Re: Straplocks: Dunlop VS. Schaller

I'm always a bit concerned the Dunlop ones will wear out, but the nut always loosens on the Schaller.

If you're over 21, Grolsch.
And if you're not, Fender Strap Blocks. Pretty much the same thing, without the bottle, malt and hops.

I'm using 'em on my Parkers because a traditional strap lock would protrude from the upper horn into my gut.

I've had both the Dunlop and Schaller systems but gave them up and use these instead: http://www.jimdunlop.com/product/lok-strap

No modification to the guitar or strap and they work just fine. Been using them about 16 years now and never dropped a guitar. Cheap too!

Re: Straplocks: Dunlop VS. Schaller

I use Schaller on everything I have except for my Charvel Jake E Lee mutt, which has a red DiMarzio clip lock. And the only reason I did that is because I really liked the red strap, plus I saw Jake had a red strap at one point, and I was trying to figure out the bridge section of RocknRoll Rebel, and right after I put on that red strap I figured it out right away. That was a good day for sure.

I never tried the Dunlop before but Im sure they are equally good units. I need to get some more straps because Ive been sharing one of them among 3 of my superstrat guitars because they length is the same....

Re: Straplocks: Dunlop VS. Schaller

Schallers here. Bombproof and decade-old ones function as perfect as new ones. I've had a Dunlop set ages ago but somehow it started losing balls after a while. It worked nice until that. Schallers never failed.

Also I'm using washers here and there. They work fine, too. You just can't detach the strap :)

Re: Straplocks: Dunlop VS. Schaller

For years I used Schaller. Always had them coming loose from the strap, and the U flipping around in a precarious manner, also the weight of the Schaller on the end of the strap often behaved like a wrecking ball into the face of the guitar when switching things around.

So far the last few years the Dunlops have been great; I like that the current generation of Dunlop buttons will function fine on a strap with no lock, the Schaller button is insufficient to hold a strap with no lock. I had the screws strip on Schaller buttons, never on the heavy duty screw in the Dunlop. Of course there is no going back (with out significant super glue construction) to regular buttons after installing the Dunlop.

Re: Straplocks: Dunlop VS. Schaller

I've used both Schaller and Dunlop and have never had a real problem with either. The one thing I kinda hate is installing or removing the clip that locks the Dunlop onto the strap; it always turns into the most slippery substance on Earth when I'm trying to push it into place. Schallers, I tighten with a socket wrench. No problems with either in actual usage, going on fifteen years, with about two dozen guitars in and out of rotation.

Re: Straplocks: Dunlop VS. Schaller

Honestly, I have Schaller on my Fender type guitars, and Dunlop on the rest.

Switched from Dunlop to Schaller years ago and never looked back. :)

Re: Straplocks: Dunlop VS. Schaller

I like Schaller. I've seen too many screw issues with Dunlop in my time, or the latch wearing out and snapping.

Re: Straplocks: Dunlop VS. Schaller

yrs ago i tryed all that were available, started using dunlop but got tired of looking for the c-clip that would come off from time to time, switched to Schaller, had trouble with the nut coming loose ,started to use lock tite, super glue, then one day saw my daughters clear fingernail polish & have been using f/nail polish on straplocks( also use on any parts airguns fishing even m/cycles)= just a dab on the threads, tighten the nut with a socket, done deal, never had one come loose, i have over 20 straps, all have Schaller , will always use schaller.

I like these the best out of all options. The problem is that they always break on me. I'd use a lock just like them if it was slightly better designed and made of quality metal.

Re: Straplocks: Dunlop VS. Schaller

Had DiMarzios...a pain. Have Schallers... noisy.

...Have a buncha GROLSCH LOCKS - PURRRFECT! two-four times cheaper, and come with free beer :nana:

Re: Straplocks: Dunlop VS. Schaller

I own one guitar with Dunlops, all others have Schallers.

I have no idea why I voted for Dunlop....

Re: Straplocks: Dunlop VS. Schaller

I have never used Dunlop so I'm a little biased but Shaller lockers came on my American Strat so I'm not complaining about them. I've been using these same ones for almost 15 years (the guitar is a '98), they seem like very high quality metal and have never let me down.
