I was listening to Greg Koch on Jude Gold's podcast today, and really want a set of Fluence pickups for my Strat.

After thinking about it, I can understand why EMG calls the mid boost a Strat Presence Control. Makes sense since the tone more substantial and bolder, bringing the guitar front and center so to speak, more in-your-face. It's just that because of the way amp knobs are labeled, most of us tend to think of a Presence control in terms of high end rather than midrange

It's actually not so far from the truth regarding amplifiers either, since the presence control was used to do just that, make the instrument seem more present front and center, and it the control itself on most amplifiers starts working as low as 300hz. The reason why it's perceived as affecting extra high end more than anything else is in part due to the reactance of the speaker(s)
