I'll answer in backwards order ~ the Tele that Lentz + I built was standard 1 Cap config ( that I recorded with auto Pitch shift with machine for Correct key/pitch for bass lines ) if You heard the song it could be perceived as a J-bass, Ricky or about any other. Considering that there Various tribes around the Globe such as New Guinea, New Zealand, Africa , North america + so forth ( Who's music would not be recognized by mainstream ) ~ I believe there was only 1 type of " Todays music " in the 1770's . For example Haydn and Mozart would most likely be considered by many to be the " Music of the Time ". as You come further Recent in History to now , I dont believe there is ANY " Music of the Time " or "Todays Music " . Todays music is Whatever works ~ I know from writing jingles and such , There is too much Media about Everything All the time . Jimi Hendrix was Not Today's Music in 1969 ( although i bought Anything i could of Him ) because my mom was diggin' Elvis or Gershwin, still . But the Neighbors liked Dino and the RatPackers but my Grandma liked Gospel and Americana Folk while my grandpa listened and taught me Mozart and Sons of the Pioneers . So, Who or What was " Todays Music " in the 60's or Currently , Pray tell ?
BTW , IMHO ~ the Fans, Consumers and Supporters of Whatever Period music has never consisted primarily of Guitar players, Lute players , Harpsichordists or pianists at Infinitum : )
