The point of this is to own the mythical 10K pup right?

I think this pup needs to be 10K.

I personally think all the technical work has been done a while back.

an A5 bridge S Deco wound to 10K!

Think about it... all research has been done. It's a proven winner. We all can call it a 10K PAF and we'll be right.

we could ask mj and seymour what they thought about scatterwinding and unequal coils...

Only in so far as I pretty much own that pickup including the scatter winding I know its very good but its still readily available to everyone. Something about this should be unique to this event.

Ok, I have one comment.

Lets try to keep this pickup as cosmetically and structurally standard as possible.

YES, it is from the "custom shop", BUT, I feel like the original idea was for a beefed up 59. So why are we talking about gold polepieces and alnicoII mags and all sorts of other fancy stuff?

Lets keep it real, keep it simple. A beefed up 59 would be just that - an alnicoV 59 humbucker wound to 10K.

I think an agreed-upon bobbin color, under a chrome cover, could keep most of us happy.

Don't newer Gibsons and all fenders and all floyd rose equipped guitars need a tremspaced pup? Where do you all guys put your "standard" ones?

All of those guitars listed fit "better" with tremspaced pickups but will work fine with "standard" pickups.

I use my standard ones in the neck slot. Not sure if there are many people still buying standard spaced bridge pickups? I know I don't anymore.

Thats about all I buy. With the exception of my Warmoth everything I have uses standard spaced pickups. PRS, Les Paul, Washburn, Epiphone, Hardtail Wolfgang. The strats probably don't but those are single coil guitars.

That's strange as Epiphone and Gibson and I would also think the Peavey Wolfgang hardtail would all have 2 1/16" string spacing which would be the same spacing as a Trembucker. Standard spacing is 1 15/16" and there are franky not too many bridges with that narrow spacing, trem or hardtail that I own.

Well, yes, I'd think that it would be better for the pup to be tremspaced if there's more users who actually need a trembucker, even if they're not aware of it with all the misinformation out there. Or if there are runs of ten could there be a run of trembuckers and standard ones?

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer

So is it possible if MJ could chime in on this one? I'd like to know what she has to say about it. And a lot of others too!

Maybe we should vote on a few specs we seem to have different opinions on? We'll just let the majority decide. Perhaps Scott can make a summary on what we have so far?

I agree with RockStarNick about the cosmetically and structurally comment. So far it looks like most people want a covered Zebra or Double cream?

I'm not shure what most common is for bridge spacing but a standard size bucker can always be used in neck position. Looks are probably the main concern when it comes to spacing? Or is there quite some tonal difference?
A trem spaced bucker in neck position would look more off than a standard bucker in the bridge position with a trem spaced bridge.

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer

I forgot to mention tone! I guess most of us want a (around)10K '59 with a little more mids?

I've never heard or played a PG in real life but I'm afraid it will be too bright?
To me that defeats the purpose of making a 10k PAF as the Demon is pretty bright too.

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer

If you're telling me that a trem-spaced pickup will fit a Les Paul with a tuneomatic bridge, then I'm fine with that.

as long as it looks the same as a regular pickup.

I think the majority of users here want this pickup as a bridge pickup, right?

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer

Wow! I say hat's off to Evan, Seymour, Scott and anyone else that had direct involvement in this! What a Classy move By SD!

I am in too.

I think the specs are pretty narrowed down and a "hot 59" or "hot EVH" sounds like a dream!

thanks!!!

Is an S-Deco a hot PAF? Evan was pushing for the Screamin' Deamon and I don't think that sounds PAFish at all.

If the S-Deco truly is a hot PAF (Does anyone know what S-Deco stands for?) Can we buy it for $100? What are the S-Deco specs?

I keep seeing mention of the Pearly Gates in this thread. I think we're aiming for a hot PAF ('59/EVH/Antiquity). Let's not make a variant of a variant (PG is already a variation of the PAF)...then we're getting too far from the real thing.

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer

RockstarNick yes a tremspace bucker will fit better but I'm not sure if there are hardtail guitars people on here own that actually have bridges that "require" standard spacing for the bridge. Out of the over 50 I have I don't see a necessity to have a "standard" spaced bridge humbucker, when most bridges are wider than 1 15/16" spacing. That said I really don't care what spacing this pickup is, I'm in no matter what!

As far as using this for the neck pickup thats a cool idea, but weren't "most" people wanting this for a bridge pickup? 10K in the neck would be overkill but then again, I like a JB in the neck so who knows...

And cosmetically I think the zebra under a cover will satisfy most of us.

You have missed the points made in this post and other post my friend! The Demon is very bright and to my ears it sounds nothing like a PAF! Maybe if it had a row of slugs and screws instead of a row of screws and hex peices maybe????

On another note...

10K sounds like everyones number that want to shoot for but, alot of folks are mentioning the S-deco. I am personally all for a S-deco but, only the neck versions of the S-deco are 10-10.5K. The bridge versions are 11.5-12K which I am totally fine with!!! It semmed like it started out as a 10-12K bucker, why all of the 10K now? Why not the 11-12K now?? Just curious. Also, alot of folks say, "no logo" and some folks say they want the "logo". I personally think it would be best to go with the logo on all of them becasue, if you dont want the logo it is EASY to remove it (very simple to do)!

Also, as far as agreeing on specs such as magnet type, gold poles, etc, lets concentrate on the more important issue, the wind. A magnet can be changed it a hurry in your own pickup! Its not hard! Alot of the things I have seen in this thread can be easily changed by yourself!

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer

TB if decided on means I´m out 100%, WTF am I supposed to do with a bridge humbucker that´s lower in output than my single coils ;)

As far as whether you "need" a trembucker, for years the standard method has been: measure between your e-strings @ the height of the bridge pickup (NOT bridge).. if the spacing is 52mm/ 2" or more you´ll want a TB.. if it´s less, standard will line up better....

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer

Guys, if you comment on my posts, please read them more carefull ;)
But maybe my english is just bad?

I meant to say that making a variety of the PG would possibly too bright. The Demon is bright too.
The 10k PAF should not be too bright.
When I think of PAF, I think 'warm', 'round' and 'smooth'.

I will use it as a bridge bucker too!
Normal spacing would simply allow the more experimental guys to try it in the Neck...

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer

This is really turning into a random idea brainstorming....

I really think we need to set some polls in order to get everything right (resistance, winding, balance, color, etc...).

As Scott stated at the early beginning, the specs agreed on by the majority (sorry but that will not be everyone) will be what the pick-up will be....

I don't think it'll be practicle to go through every post to survey the opinions....

Just my 0.02$ ;)

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer

Re: The SD Forum Special 10.0K Bridge Bucker Offer

For tonal reference, a 9.0 PAF is called a 78/EVH model.

10K would be a bit hotter.

Majority rules on the specs, but 10K has always been a spec that seems obviously in stone to me (and the reason we're all spending so much time on this!)
