This is your rig. What would *you* do with it?

Re: This is your rig. What would *you* do with it?

id ditch the 333, maybe the strat, all the pedals, and all the rack stuff. use the money i get from that to...uh....buy an island or something :laugh2: thats a ton of pedals

Re: This is your rig. What would *you* do with it?

Good idea on the bump. I guess I missed this one last year.

Here's what I'd keep:
2000 MIJ Fender Strat with rosewood fingerboard; modified with Kinman pickups, a refretted neck with medium-jumbo frets, locking tuners and strap locks (Only switch to maple fingerboard, and I'm not familiar with Kinmans, but if I liked them I'd keep 'em. If not, probably throw some Ants. in there.)
Fender '65 Super Reverb Reissue combo
Boss DS-1 Distortion with John Spina mod (haven't actually heard his mod, but if I liked it, that would be the one I keep)
Boss TU-2 Chromatic Tuner
BSM OR Treble Booster
Dunlop Crybaby (wah - reissue)
Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man (vintage)
MXR Flanger (vintage 1981)
MXR Phaser (reissue)
THD Hot Plate (16-ohm version)
Ebtech Hum Eliminator (for running two amps in stereo)
George L's cables (used to connect pedals to each other)

I'd sell the rest and get:
Hamer CS Monaco Elite with Ebony board (I don't like rosewood)-CC/59(with a2 mag.)
Jackson SL2H like mine
Parts built tele with Bigsby
Gibson Dove with SD MagMic (Stupid rosewood!!!)
Marshall JCM900 MkIII (probably Jeff Seal modded)
JJ tubes for the amps

And some sort of talk-box to woo the girls with my rendition of Do You Feel Like We Do. :laugh2:

Honestly, I could take your rig, as is, and run with it, and I'd probably be 100% happy with it. It's a fine setup!

Here are my questions:

Do you make any modifications to any of the equipment? Do you toss or add any equipment? What's your signal path?

In short, given what you've got, what do you do to achieve your ultimate rig?

(I know, huge questions. Something to keep you busy during downtime.)

- Keith

P.S. Don't say "It depends on what kind of sound you're going after." I want to know what you would do with it if this were your rig.

Now get crackin', guitar heroes!

I'd take the 2000 MIJ Fender strat and refret it to jumbo frets, depending on how the med.-jumbo frets play for me. I'd have installed an original Floyd Rose in black, a knurled black volume knob (and also tone knob(s)), black blade switch cap, black pickguard (if it has one), and a black locking nut. I don't know about re-doing the paintjob, whatever it is originally. Don't know if it has humbucker pot, but even if not, I'd go with a paralell-axis pickup, I guess.

I'd run into the amp with a '12 ft Monster Rock cable or longer- depending on how I feel about my signal and/or my mobility. I'd use whatever Mesa produced lots of a liquid type-gain and play that through a Monster speaker cabled Mesa 2x12, equipped with 2 Celestion Classic 80's.

Re: This is your rig. What would *you* do with it?

I'de Toss The LesPaul, or actually sell it and use that money to Buy parts to Modify the telecaster. An sell the Strat an use that money to Buy parts to Mod the Es-333.

Mods to tele would be...Replace Bridge pickup with Duncan Vintage Stack, and neck Pickup with a Mini-bucker of some sort.Replace Toggle switch with 3way and wire it normally. Replace Bridge with a 3 brass saddle Compensated vintage style tele bridge. Change tuners To Sprezel Locking tuners. Replace output cup with an electro socket. Install Dunlop strap locks. Nut Replaced with Bone. Neck Shimmed for a slight angle (with Playing cards).

Mods to 333 would be...Replace Pickups with a Set of Duncan 59's Nickle covered. Replace Pots with 250k cts pots, with .047 caps on the tone controls. Replace Knobs with Chrome Barrel knobs like used on telecasters. Get an es335 style pickgaurd (cause the 333's I've seen ahven't have pg's), color would depend on color of the guitar. Replace Tuners with Chrome nickle grovers. Install dunlop strap locks. Nut Replaced with Bone.

I'de also sell All of the Mesa Crap. Cause I have No use for it.
Also Sell/give away Almost all of those pedals, and ALL of the rack gear. I have no use for that much stuff. So I'de most likely just give it to someone who would actually use it.

I'de use the money made from selling the mesa Crap to buy the following Pedals...ds-1 (no need to mod it for my use), A Russian Big Muff and an Usa Big Muff, EH Poly Chorus, Some sort of delay pedal (not sure what I'de like really), MXR Graphic eq, And a Boss Tremolo pedal.

Signal Chain would be as follows....
Clean sounds...Guitar (neck or middle possition)>Poly Chorus (set for low speed High depth chorus but not always on)>Delay (set for a slap back with Very low mix level)>Tremolo> Super reverb amp
Dirty sounds....Guitar (bridge for rhythm, middle possition for leads)>ds-1 (Level Maxed, Tone on 0, distortion on 0, used as lead boost)>Russian Big muff (Level 3-4 o'clock, tone 12 o'clock, gain maxed out)> USA Big Muff (Level 3-4 o'clock, Tone 3 o'clock, Gain 12 o'clock)> Eq (set for mid boost)> Chorus (same settings as clean, only used for leads)>A/b/y pedal (for switching between amps)> Super Reverb Amp AND/OR Ac-30

Only one big muff would ever be on at once, Ds-1 only used as a lead boost. And ac-30 only used as a lead amp, either alone, or with super reverb amp. All Pedals would be run on batterys, cause I hate adapters. Cords would Most likely be Quite long (20ft) From pedals to the amps, But short (10 ft) Between The guitar and the pedals. No Pedal Board (I like them on the floor and messy). Straps would be cheap nylon ones. Strings would be Ernie ball Slinky top Heavy Bottom for the tele, and Power slinkys for the 333. Tele would be used for Open D, Open G, and Dropped D. ES-333 would be Standard tuneing. Amp Settings would depend on Venue, or recording situations. Guitars would have Coins Glued to them, and Stuff writen on them with sharpie (no stickers though).

I think that about covers it.

HAHAHA

I know. What can I say? I value the opinions of the folks on this board.

How you been, man?

Re: This is your rig. What would *you* do with it?

Good, man. I catch you pokin' around here and there.

Dude, you've got the hella rig!

Re: This is your rig. What would *you* do with it?

Thanks. It really needs some fine-tuning though. And I definitely need to cut out the fat.

Hey, our birthday's coming up. Are you as excited as I am?

Re: This is your rig. What would *you* do with it?

That's right!

I took off Monday- I should probably consider taking Tuesday as well. :)

I forsee a lot of steak, beer, whiskey and a whole lotta rock and roll.:bigthumb:

I get to go to the office and work all day -- dumb move on my part not taking a vacay day -- but I think the wife and kids have something nice planned for me after that. Then we put the kids to bed and...

350s suck, so do 3 speeds. Go with a 427 and a 4 speed.
For what they do, they're pretty badass.

Screw that 427 stuff, Someday I'll have a 389 with a six pack and a 4 speed. Someday...

And the only time a 350 is badass is when it's in a car under 2700lb.

Re: This is your rig. What would *you* do with it?

First, sell off all that Mesa/Boogie stuff. And with the money I get from that, buy an Edana from Scott_F with a matching 4x12 with Heritage G12M Celestion speakers in it. Replace two of the four speakers in the Fender with Weber alnico speakers. Put in two Celestion Alnico Blues in the AC30 if they aren't there already. And finally, an Epiphone Valve Junior head to use for talkbox.

Then, sell the Strat and buy a new one, a Closet Classic 1956 reissue in Surf Green, and put a set of Surfers in it. Replace those pickups in the Tele with a set of Antiquity I's. Sell the ES-333, and replace the pickups in the Les Paul with either a Brobucker/PG combo, or a set of Antiquities. Keep the Guild acoustic.

Sell EVERY pedal except the Spina-Mod DS-1 (Set up like a clean boost), including rackmount stuff, and buy these pedals:

-Fulltone Clyde Deluxe
-Fulltone Fulldrive II MOSFET Edition (Set up like a Tubescreamer)
-Fulltone '69 Fuzz Pedal (Jimi-style Fuzz)
-Fulltone Soulbender (Jeff Beck or Keith Richards/Satisfaction style Fuzz)
-Fulltone Deja' 2
-Fender '63 Reverb Unit set up in between jumpered cables on the Edana
-Line 6 MM-4 Modulation Modeler, one preset to Phase 90, one preset set to MXR Flanger, and the other set to something else (To be decided)
-Line 6 DL-4 Delay Modeler pedal, with one preset Stereo Ping-Pong, another Tape Reverse, and another one just a quick slap-back.
-Build a Rangemaster clone pedal
-Peterson StroboStomp Tuner
-Framptone Talkbox
-A/B/Y to switch between amp and talkbox.
-A/B/C/Y switcher pedal to switch amps.

I'd use the Tele for slide, and it will probably be in Open G tuning. I'd use both the Les Paul and Strat for standard-tuning slide playing as well when called for. I'd use glass medicine bottle style slides.

The Pedal chain would look like this (Note I have no pedals so I'm just going from what the order of effects thing says)

Guitar > StroboStomp > Clyde Deluxe > '69 Fuzz > Soulbender > Fulldrive II > DS-1 > Rangemaster > MM-4 > Deja' 2 > A/B/Y, one going to the other splitter, other to Valve Junior > A/B/C/Y splitter > (Splitter Option 1) DL-4 with Stereo out to the Super Reverb and the normal channel of the Vox > (Splitter Option 2) To Vox AC30 Top Boost channel > (Splitter Option 3) Edana Amplifier with the Fender Reverb unit in between a cable jumpering outputs.

The Fender is set clean with a touch of Reverb, as is the normal channel of the Vox. The Top Boost channel is set for Rory Gallagher and Brian May type distortions. And the Edana is set so it's mainly for distorted tones, but can be turned clean with guitar volume/picking technique. I can control the amount of reverb on the Edana by raising or lowering the volume of the second volume.

The Valve Junior is set clean and sent into a Framptone Talkbox which is below a mic stand with an SM57 with foam pop filter on it.

Then, crank and play! :headbang:
