Vinnie Vincent Sound

VVinvasion

New member
Hey, Im new on the boards!
I've been struggling lately, trying to find a bridge pickup that would give me a tone similar to Vinnie Vincent's.
I know that there has been a thread about this before I think but yeah.
And please don't comment about how crappy his tone is or that you think he looks like a woman. Im not an expert on pickups so I'd like some help from the masters:14:
take a listen

Thx for any answers:)

Re: Vinnie Vincent Sound

Welcome VVinvasion! Interesting question, and one that certainly doesn't get asked often. I'm going in with the Dimarzio Super2 crowd....

And if ACEMAN can give a sensible answer to that, you guys can get your heads out of your @$$es for a moment to help a new guy out. geez...

Re: Vinnie Vincent Sound

Hey thanx people. really appreciate the answers.
I know that Vinnie used an EMG81 in the bridge for sometime, but later switched it out with Seymour Duncans. At least I've been told it was duncans Can sometime be a bit hard to see on pictures. He didn't prefer the Emg if im right.
I've heard that Vinnie used to have a Jeff Beck signature pickup in the neck and a emg81 in the bridge while he was in Kiss.

Re: Vinnie Vincent Sound

And say what you want about the Vin...The pink metalflake double V was about as Big 80's as it gets...

Re: Vinnie Vincent Sound

haha - yeah, he's an easy guy to poke fun at but was a cool guitar player.

When is Jackson going to release the re-issue Vinnie Vincent signature model? I also think Washburn should re-relase that black and white Ace Frehley lightning bolt thing!!!!

I was listening to "Creatures of the Night" again the other day and there's some great stuff on there.. I belive that's VV even though Ace is on the album cover (am I right?)

Re: Vinnie Vincent Sound

Vinnie plays lead on some songs on creatures yes. (keep me comin', Killer, saints and sinner, War Machine and I love it loud) He also co-wrote songs: I love it loud, I still love you, Killers. Back on the streets which is to be found on the Invasion lp was recorded by KISS but never put on the album. Vinnie says his favorite version of that song was the one paul sang, but non in Kiss felt anyone sang it with the same emotions as vinnie did.

So it didn't make the album. He was actually brought into kiss because they saw Back on the streets as a potential hit song. He also co-wrote allmost all the songs on Lick it up. Or...he mostly wrote the whole songs. Simmons and stanley wrote some lines and decided to be first in the credits. He also co-wrote Unholy, I just wanna and Heart of Chrome on Revenge.

When it comes to guitars. Vinnie holds the rights to the shape. I still think Jackson can produce the guitars if they want to since they buildt them before he got the rights or something. Also Washburn, Ibanez and Carvin has built a doublev guitar shape each for the man himself. He used the Carvin frequently on the All systems go tour after his fall out with Jackson.

some facts for you all! haha

Haha, If I was Vinnie I wouldn't go to a forum to ask about my own pickups!
Im just your ordinary Vinnie obsessed guitarist. And of course a Kiss fan.

Man, that Ace Washburn sure is awesome.

Re: Vinnie Vincent Sound

Welcome!!! I have no answer aside from I dont recall ever seeing VV use an active pup. He was good player although I didnt like the singer of the VV invasion..
The VV double Vs were cool! I read something awhile back about whether or not they could be produced, but I dont recall what it said..
That Dan Hartman vid was hard to watch..

I know this was no help, other than just to say hi and hope you find what you are looking for.

Looking thru some Youtube vids..
I think this is the biggest hair Ive EVER seen!

Re: Vinnie Vincent Sound

I gotta say - I find it really interesting cool when someone is interested in the gear a semi-obscure guitar player uses. (and I don't mean "semi obscure" as an insult)

So much time has been spent speculating on the minutia of the gear EVH and SRV and Hendrix and Clapton and whatot (.."well in 1970, he used a Strat pickguard with 9 screws....) I never think about what gear Vinnie Vincent or somone like that used. As an admitted guitar nerd, I find it educational and refreshing!..

rawk on!

It is Bob Kulick (Bruce's older brother) on most of that album. Vinnie did one or 2 leads.

Re: Vinnie Vincent Sound

I met Vinnie during the Invasion tour, and at the time he had an EMG81 with two of their preamp/boost circuits added on in the VV Jackson.
