Re: Vinnie Vincent Sound
I friggin LOVE Vinnie V, esp w the ankh makeup . I didn't know who he was when I went to meet them at autograph signing on Creatures tour but he looked wicked cool up close. That nite I loved the show becuz he and eric updated the skills , and the Creatures songs live were great alongside the classics. He was the first guy I saw after Randy to play a Jackson AND a major first at introducing the world to EMG81s . On his solo album it's very clear about Emgs, no pedals, no keys, etc . However you'll notice he seems to have duncans in his instructional vid. Btw wolf Hoffman switched to emgs after seeing him. IMO, I was craving his sound and on my tubeking I jacked the mids past half and got as close to his tone as I needed becuz that pedal has a unique boxy mid control. Myself I don't think Emgs are essential to his at all, so if you don't find out what duncs he used, I'd sheepishly suggest JB for that solid listenable boxiness. And try dialing out bass and boosting mids. And if you learn to all those outsidethescale notes he finds, good luck I corporating his chicken pickin style of accenting. Here's a scale I learned watching him: yknow diminished is every third fret or semitone, augmented is every fourth. Try playing every fourth, third, fourth, third, fourth, third etc. Kinda like an extension of a maj7 9 chord. VV is no slouch, excess outside the bounds of most folks taste, but a pro at outside notes, 70s chordal , and a monster chickenpicker.
