I also think he's still playing performance guitars. I know just not to long ago they did a limited run of Warrens guitars. I think XSSIVE told me this, maybe he'll pop in and clarify.

The Charvel Warren´s are not limited but standard production, or do you mean a Performance run?... I could well imagine him still using Performance every so often live and in the studio, though ;)

Performance is making them, the first 20 of each model are signed by Warren himself... www.performanceguitar.com While they look like a run of the mill superstrat, there are some neat features such as a rather unique neck carve, larger inertia blocks on the floyds, stainless steel frets, etc.

The Hard Rock in Toronto has a little club upstairs called 279... It has a Charvel Snake Skin strat head guitar hanging on the wall up there that i'd love to reach thru the glass and try out! I forget who's name is on the case....

How about Coverdale wanting Jake for Whitesnake before Via ?

That would've been a great fit, IMO.

"Slip of the Tongue" was produced like this:

Coverdale & crew record ALL of their parts, THEN....

.....the album sits in Vai's household recording studio while he records his guitar parts all by himself.

I thought it was semi-cool back when I was 14, but really, Vai was a horrible fit for that band. I could've only dreamed of Jake E. Lee being in that band. I guarantee you he wouldn't have made the same sh*tty demands Vai did while recording.

In fact, even at age 14, I didn't believe for one f*cking minute that Vandenberg's injury was as bad as they made it out to be. My suspicion is that Vai said, "hey, I'll come on board, but ONLY as the sole guitar player. And all my parts will be recorded in my 64 track home recording studio".

I think Coverdale recognized that Vai was practically a "brand" at that point, and jumped on board, which is sad. Vandenberg was allowed to tour and make videos, but really, it was the Steve Vai show, which is too bad.

......not that I feel bad for Vandenberg, since neither he nor anyone in those 1987 videos played a single lick or drumbeat on that album either. Coverdale fired everyone in the band immediately after recording their best album. Then hired a whole new crew for the videos & tour. Too bad.....Sykes was sort of Zakk Wylde before Zakk Wylde.

In fact, for as long as Vandenberg was in Whitesnake, I'm not sure he ever recorded a note, outside of the "Here I go Again" solo.

Getting back to what got my blood boiling.......I think Jake had an incredibly organic tone on that first Badlands album, and was really hitting his peak. Would've loved to have heard him record with Coverdale.

Yeah,

where did all that cool talent and vibe ( from the guitarists) go form the 80's?

i personaly wouldnt dig for the whole style though. it was totally cheesy.

Warren was endorsing or had made for him those Performance Koa bodied guitars. Maybe cause he just had a limited amount made for him he went to Charvel as well. Maybe he just wanted to make an extra buck, thats cool too.

He totally rocks though, both the sound and the playing.

Majestic, i agree with you on Jake. Vai is one guitarist without Kahonas. Awesome player but no soul. I know this is gonna piss some people off but, hey sorry.

Re: Warren DeMartini's Guitars?

The fact is Performance guitars are VERY expensive, I've heard around $3,000. I have no doubt that Charvel is able to offer him a guitar that's just as good at the fraction of the price. Maybe he gets a royalty off every dimartini guitar sold, and when that could be 1000 guitars, the money adds up. He won't see that mooney with a limited production performance

When I think of Jackson's and Marshall's. I think Ratt first.

Y' know it's funny I make that association too...

But whenever I think Jackson, I think Stryper first. Really. I remember seeing those yellow and black charvel/jacksons or whatever, and going "Dayyum, gotta get one of those"....As I kid I just thought they were really cool.

Warren never did much for me...never liked the tone, and although a masterful player, he's too much like GL for me...alot of slippy slidy, greasy wanking..TOO legato for my tastes.

In fact I'd put him and GL, and possibly even EVH kinda in the same category, absolutely love to hear them playing rhythm, tune out on most of the lead work. I can remember in my head all kinds of Ratt and Dokken riffs/chord progressions and love 'em, but not too many memorable solos/leads.
